It provides support to various business groups and the job involves data analysis, model and strategy development & implementation, Business Intelligence, reporting and data management

Global Business/Global Function (GRA) :

Global Risk Analytics is one of the key sub-functions within Global Risk providing analytics solutions and regulatory capital model support for Global Businesses in domains of wholesale credit risk, traded credit and market risk, treasury risk and operational risk. The function focuses on risk model development, monitoring, quantitative impact study, model maintenance and performs the role of 1st line of defense with respect to model risk.

Global Business/Global Function - Sub-Function (WCR Model Monitoring) :

GRA Wholesale Credit Risk Model Monitoring team is a centrally managed team within GAC that is responsible for monitoring performance and define future action for all Regulatory Capital models (IRB) and portfolio Impairment models (IFRS9, ST, ECL) within Wholesale business for HSBC. The team also carries out monitoring of all Stress-testing models applicable within Wholesale business. Additionally, this team is responsible for Governance and Controls for WCR models across all regions & countries. The team is a critical part of FLOD from Model Risk perspective and is essential in meeting Regulatory and Audit requirement for the business. Throughout the year, the team supports several Regulatory reports like EBA Benchmarking, Pillar 3 submission etc.

The Opportunity:

Decision Sciences job family is structured to address business problems with quantitative solutions like building of predictive algorithms / forecasting / scenario simulations etc. Members of this Job Family are differentiated by their capability of converting a business problem into a quantitative construct, solve it with available statistical / mathematical methods (following the right rigour), engage with IT to implement and finally interpret the model outcomes in business language. The range of business problems may cover areas of business growth, improving customer experience, limiting risk exposure, capital quantification, enhancing internal business processes etc. They are required to, as necessary, embed agile & exploratory practices into their approach, justify the choice of appropriate methods to various internal and external reviewers. This talent group is expected to keep themselves apprised of latest developments and industry practices around emerging methodologies, techniques etc. and bring those in-house by applying them for better outcomes. A decision sciences job family member should be able to: -
  • Partner with functional business leaders in developing analytical models
  • Partner with IT / Data Engineering teams to create deployment road-map
  • Provide actionable solutions with clear articulation of recommendations for the business stakeholders across geographies
  • Independently manage delivery of model development projects by working with business partners across regions / geographies
  • Actively contribute in innovative analytical solutioning for improved business performance

What you'll do:

Role Job Description:

This role will be responsible for supporting GRA Wholesale Model Monitoring unit in the following capacities:
  • Lead and Manage Model monitoring & other regulatory activities related to IRB models for all Wholesale portfolios across the Globe.
  • Support regulatory and audit submissions as on when required.
  • Be the single point of contact for Wholesale IRB model monitoring and assessments and drive innovations within this vertical.
  • The individual is also required to work on key projects within Model Monitoring function and drive changes as on when required.
  • Manage a team of around 6-8 members (Analyst - Manager) and look into their performance management & career development management.

You would need to:
  • Interface with senior stakeholders across Wholesale Risk
  • Multitask on simultaneous engagements on controls & governance activities for Wholesale Credit Risk
  • Work closely with senior regional team members in executing specific tasks and projects.
  • Provide leadership support in various activities with WCR Model Monitoring team.

Management of Risk/Internal Controls/Compliance:
  • The jobholder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term 'compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:
  • At least 8 years of experience of using statistical concepts and credit risk models to solve complex business problems
  • At least 6 years of work experience related to Credit Risk within Financial domain with expertise in IRB PD, EAD and LGD model development or monitoring
  • At least Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Management or other quantitative fields of study
  • Proficiency in SAS / R, Python, JavaScript and MS Office tools like Excel & PowerPoint is preferable
  • Business problem solving skills is essential
  • Proven expertise in building statistical and (or) ML models for solving diverse business challenges and creating significant business value
  • Knowledge and exposure to cloud analytics platform such as GCP, AWS Redshift , Azure etc. would be a plus but not mandatory
  • Enthusiasm for proactively seeking, exploring and developing use cases for new data and/or tools/wider industry trends
  • Strong business acumen with out-of-the box thinking to drive improved business performance
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and seamless delivery of analytics initiatives across markets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop and effectively communicate complex concepts and ideas
  • Past experience in Governance related activities is a plus
  • Strong Business communication skills is a must. Ability to confidently interact with senior management and communicate and synthesize information in a simple form. Besides strong written and verbal communication skills the incumbent is also expected to have strong presentation skills
  • PhD or Master's degree from reputed university in business management or other quantitative fields
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations
  • Strong project management skills.
