Do you have a good understanding around the complexities and legalities of Māori land, fluency in Te Reo, experienced in engagement and relationship building, and have sound knowledge of Mātauranga Māori? If this sounds like you, we have an exciting opportunity for you to play a critical role as part of our Rates Engagement team.
We're looking for a Senior Rates Advisor - Whenua Māori who is experienced in local government rating, with a focus on Māori land.

Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Reporting to the Rates Engagement Team Leader, the Senior Rates Advisor - Whenua Māori role focuses on the rating of Māori land as well as supporting the wider Rates Team with all rating functions. You will establish and maintain enduring relationships with Māori landowners as well as provide an effective and efficient council rates collection and advisory service that ensures a solution focussed customer experience.
This role will provide advice on a range of queries and has a specific focus on Māori land, referencing Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, the Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993, and Local Government (Rating of Whenua Māori) Amendment Act 2021.

Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience

Along with a can-do attitude, great attention to detail, and the ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload, you will have:

Minimum 5-6 years' experience working in local government or an organisation that is involved in the complexities and legalities of Māori land.
Advanced knowledge of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993, Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, and Local Government (Rating of Whenua Māori) Act 2021.
National Diploma Level 4 in Business Management or equivalent with Rates or Finance focus and / or equivalent body of knowledge gained through experience.
Fluency in Te Reo and a sound understanding of Mātauranga Māori.
Demonstrated understanding and experience of collection processes and legislation.
Proven relationship building and management skills with key stakeholders.
