Are you a qualified accountant with experience gained in South Africa?

We have an excellent opportunity to join our Finance team in our Johannesburg office on an initial 12 months Fixed Term Contract!

Main responsibilities include preparation, analysis and submission of monthly, Quarterly and annual returns and calculations:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete monthly VAT returns and compile journals associated before the 15th of every month
  • List queries based on an analysis of the VAT Premium and Claims extract system information and resolve with the claims and operations departments.
  • Ensuring compliance with Chubb's and SARS accounting rules and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete the monthly SASRIA return, compile the journals associated before 20th of month, list queries and resolve with operations department
  • Complete Quarterly and Annual - SAM return support schedules and calculations as well as assisting with the updating of the SAM template.
  • Analysis of insurance financial information for accounting purposes in compliance with Chubb rules and requirements
  • Updating of Brio excel pivot Analytical Review Reports during the week following the monthly close of systems
  • Review and check reinsurance postings between journals and system output monthly by the following month end.
  • Reconciling of claims data comparing the outstanding loss reserves between different system reports to ensure accuracy and consistency of information.
  • Prepare grossing high-level schedules and support calculations with the use of the Direct External, Direct Intercompany, Ceded External and Ceded Intercompany sub-ledgers.
  • Annual Tax return support schedules to the Financial Manager for review and finalisation.
  • Assist with extracting information needed in processes and then loading data into the systems.
  • Assist Management with developing processes and procedures to ensure compliance with the new accounting standard for IFRS 17 as and when required.
  • Preparing data for use by European actuaries.

Qualifications

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting
  • At least 3 years' experience in analytical accounting
  • Experience in financial services / insurance industries will be beneficial
  • Excellent working ability in Microsoft Excel with ability to extract data vie pivots / V-lookups from large data blocks
  • Good people skills and ability to interact with various teams
  • Other characteristics: accurate, self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team and deadline driven
  • Able and willing to work periodic evenings and weekends to meet deadlines and urgent management requests
