After serving their full term as Chair, the Christchurch City Council is seeking applications for a new Independent Chair of its Audit and Risk Committee.
The Audit & Risk Management Committee is an important tool, to enable the City Council governors and management to have an independent view of audit and risk which then drives continuous improvement within the council.
Whilst the traditional role of ARMC is to provide oversight to the Council in regard to the internal and external reporting, and reviewing of key internal controls, we are seeking a Chair that can bring best practise and diversity through to the local government sector.
In an environment of continuing change in the local government sector, our Chair needs to have a good understanding of the challenges facing our sector, and our environment, including climate change resilience, major reform, geopolitical pressures and public expectation.
The ARMC Chair has a key role in providing the oversight and reporting function to full council and being the champion in regard to risk appetite and management.
The preferred candidates will have extensive governance experience, awareness/experience in New Zealand local government context, familiarity with risk management disciplines, an understanding of internal control and assurance frameworks, an understanding of the roles of internal and external audit and financial and analysis from a risk perspective.
The Independent Chair will be appointed for an initial term of three years.

Additional information and how to apply
More information on the Committee can be found in the attached Terms of Reference.
Candidates will need to apply via our website and include a cover letter and curriculum vitae (CV) outlining suitability for the role .
Next steps
Once the application period has closed, applications will be reviewed and shortlisted for interviews. Post interviews, a report with recommendations will be provided to Council for their consideration as only the Council can appoint members to the Committee.
Applications close 5.00pm Tuesday 23 May 2023
