Job Summary

 

The Manager, Cost Accounting will be a key member of the Accounting organization, managing accounting and finance processes related to the commercial manufacturing & supply chain functions. 

 

This role will serve as a business partner by providing financial expertise & analysis to the Supply Chain (i.e., Eisai Demand Chain Systems or “EDCS”) and Quality (i.e., Product Quality or “PQ”) groups based in Raleigh, Baltimore, and Exton in support of their effort to ensure an uninterrupted, cost-efficient supply of quality medicine for patients.

 

This role will join an experienced team that has worked over a decade together.  The team is expanding in anticipation of the future growth of Eisai’s pipeline of biologic (i.e., monoclonal antibodies and proteins) and antibody-drug conjugate (“ADC”) medicines, specifically future growth of Eisai’s comprehensive pipeline for potential treatments of Alzheimer’s disease.

 

This role is office-based, not manufacturing site-based, and allows for a hybrid work schedule.

 

Essential Functions

 

Obtain a deep understanding of the supply chain flow, contractual commitments with contract manufacturing organizations (“CMO”), contractual commitments for key alliance partnerships, and global supply chain strategies. Develop manufacturing standard cost estimates that comply with internal policies and accounting standards. Perform the month-end accounting close process to ensure accurate & timely reporting of inventory quantities & valuation, cost center spending, production variances, and cost of goods sold (“COGS”) on the P&L.  Prepare and review journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations.  Develop detailed, zero-based financial budgets & forecasts on a local site basis. Develop high-level financial budgets & forecasts for the US P&L.  Analyze monthly manufacturing results.  Investigate monthly production variances between estimated & actual results. Report results & variances to local site management, to the US HQ, and to the global HQ. Serve as a business partner to the Supply Chain & Quality groups by pro-actively analyzing the financial impact of operational decisions & business development opportunities.  Act as the financial liaison between the Supply Chain & Quality groups and the US/global HQs.  Respond to ad-hoc inquiries and support special projects, as necessary. Support the annual Value Reconciliation for US Customs Compliance. Continually assess cost accounting process & procedures; identify, influence, and execute process improvements.  Ensure cost accounting internal controls are designed & operating effectively.

 

Requirements

 

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance

 

  • Experience
    • 5+ years hands-on cost accounting, financial management, or financial planning experience
    • Manufacturing and/or pharmaceutical industry experience (preferred)
    • Experience using SAP (preferred)
    • Understanding of IFRS accounting standards (preferred)
    • CPA and/or public accounting background a plus

 

  • Must Possess
    • Must be willing to adopt a growth mindset & to take on a hands-on approach to perform detailed analysis
    • Strong verbal, writing, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Capability to work with diverse teams in a matrix organizational structure
    • Must be quality conscious & self-directed, while remaining focused on the team objectives
    • Travel (global and domestic; ~5%) may be required
