  • Hours: Monday – Thursday 08:30-17:00 and Friday 08:30 – 16:00. Office based with possibility of some working from home once fully familiar with the company and role.
  • Due to office location it is essential to be a driver and have your own transport. Plenty of free parking on site for staff.

My client is a friendly family-run business currently seeking a full time and permanent Bookkeeper to join the small team in their head office very close to Burgess Hill.

There is free parking on site – no public transport nearby so the ability to drive is essential.

They are a dog friendly office and staff can bring their own (well behaved) dogs into the office if they wish to.

We are looking for an all-round bookkeeper, ideally familiar with Sage 50 Accounts Professional and preferably also with Sage Payroll. This role will overlap with some Company Secretary duties, this will be in liaison with the Directors. This position will cover all the financial areas of the company. The right person will be able to juggle several things and know how to prioritise their workload.

The role and duties:
  • Bank reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • General Bookkeeping
  • Purchase & sales ledger processing
  • Credit card reconciliations
  • Produce management accounts monthly and end of year accounts.
  • Month End Accounts Payroll (Staff Monthly Wages)
  • Some HR Administrative processes. Absence, Sickness, etc.
  • Processing & payment of monthly PAYE & NI
  • Processing supplier invoices
  • Processing supplier payments on time
  • Producing and submitting VAT Returns
  • Preparation of Statutory accounts and year-end duties
  • Some credit control, setting up new clients, credit checks
  • Manage cashflow
  • Maintain workplace pension and make monthly submissions
  • Some Company Secretary duties such as submission of Annual return to Companies House
  • Other duties as required (annual PCI compliance, review of policies, leases etc- with Directors, monitoring of energy consumption)
  • Managing VAT & duty payments for incoming shipments.

Skills, experience and competencies required:
  • Experience working in a role with similar responsibilities
  • Analytical approach with the ability to make changes
  • Be able to manage your own diary and work to deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal administration and organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and team-working skills
  • High level of accuracy and ability to spot numerical differences
  • Preferred proficiency in Sage 50 accounts and Sage 50 Payroll or similar software
  • Drive and passion to help the business grow and work with Directors to achieve this.
