The job: Senior Financial Accountant

Due to a number of recent internal promotions we an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team based in Paisley. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a progressive centre of excellence in an organisation considered a global leader in its field. This function continue to develop and grow their team and as such is an excellent time to join.

The position is in the Record to Report (RtR) team of our Global Business Services (GBS) European Centre of Excellence. The team provides financial controllership in the region for three of the Thermo Fisher Scientific groups - Life Sciences and Laboratory Products Group, Special Diagnostics Group and Analytical Instruments Group. We are responsible for a large number of entities reporting a total of over $10 Billion of revenue per year.

The successful candidate will own the US GAAP financials of a number of legal entities, working closely with the Accounting Operations team to ensure financial accuracy and timely deliverance of close activities.

What will you do?
  • Own the US GAAP end to end financials across a number of EMEA legal entities
  • Analyse profit and loss account and balance sheet trends and variances
  • Perform review and approval activities at month end, including high risk journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review general ledger activity, researching and correcting account discrepancies
  • Perform balance sheet deep dives and present outcomes to stakeholders
  • Key point of contact for internal stakeholders
  • Oversee the timeliness of financial reporting for the EMEA region
  • Run monthly business reviews with stakeholders
  • Proactively participate in PPI (Practical Process Improvement) initiatives, including Gemba Walks, Just Do Its, Kaizen events, and daily Tier management
  • Complete a variety of special projects as and when requested

Who we are looking for:
  • Fully Qualified Accountant
  • Able to organise and prioritise multiple complex situations
  • High level of proactivity to drive continuous improvement
  • Deep technical accounting expertise
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP (Desired but not essential)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact at various levels inside and outside the organisation
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Working knowledge of ERPs (E1 or SAP)
