STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The Bass, Miami Beach’s contemporary art museum, seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and energetic individual to work in the museum’s Finance Department. The ideal candidate is action-oriented, friendly, persistent, and highly dedicated to accomplishing the museum’s organizational goals and strategic plan.

The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and reviewing financial documents, reports, and statements. They oversee all accounting procedures and advise on general financial matters, including processing accounts receivable and accounts payable, settlement transactions, maintenance and custody of accounting records, and performing other general accounting duties. The ideal individual prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality; identifies and resolves problems promptly; responds promptly to requests for service and assistance and meets commitments. 

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and assimilate annual budgets.
  • Review, code, and process all accounts receivable and accounts payable invoices.
  • Print and distribute accounts payable disbursements checks. 
  • Reconcile revenue, bank, and credit card statements. 
  • Maintain accounting records.
  • Assist in presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Deputy Director, the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare and distribute Form 1099 and other related tax forms.
  • Research vendor statements, payment inquiries, variances, and/or discrepancies.
  • Maintain vendor database, updating and creating vendors as needed.
  • Perform monthly and year-end accruals and assist in the closing process. 
  • Prepare analysis of accounts, as required. 
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties for the department.
  • Prepare and enter various journal entries. 
  • Compile and produce departmental reports upon request.
  • Provide documentation and assist in annual external audits.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. 
  • Minimum two years of related accounting experience using an automated system.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in written format and oral presentation. 
  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment. 
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
  • Excellent attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work well in a team environment. 
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and Altru is a plus.
  • Experience in not-for-profit entities is a plus.
  • Spanish proficiency is a plus.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • This is a full-time, exempt position. Candidate must work regular office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 2-3 days of on-site work. While not typical, the ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours for special events as directed by supervisor is required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work will be performed in an office environment at the museum or home office setting. Position requires working at a desk and utilizing computer and telephone for prolonged periods of time. For special events, must be able to stand for several hours at a time. Position may require occasional heavy lifting of 25 pounds or less.
