Accounting & Finance Manager

UWorld is the worldwide leader in online test prep practice question banks. Since 2003, millions of students have used UWorld’s products to prepare for their high-stakes examinations. Due to continued growth, UWorld is looking to add an Accounting Manager to the Finance and Accounting Team.

Central to the Accounting Manager’s role is a strong understanding of GAAP and the ability to consistently apply critical thinking, resolve complex assignments, leverage accounting practices and organizational policies and procedures. In support of UWorld’s focus on excellence and best practices, the Accounting Manager must work collaboratively and collectively with those internal and external to the department.

Minimum Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting/finance; master's degree strongly preferred
  • Current CPA license

Minimum Experience Required:

  • 12+ years of combined experience (staff accountant, senior staff accountant, or accounting manager)
  • 5+ years of managerial experience
  • Strong experience with a regional and/or national public accounting
  • Experience with corporate tax, multi-state payroll tax, and sales taxes is preferred

Required Skills:

  • Senior-level knowledge of accounting principles (i.e., GAAP), practices, and procedures on manual and automated systems
  • Expert-level understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and monthly variance analysis reports
  • Proficiency using accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks)
  • Demonstrated judgment, strong decision-making ability, effective problem-solving skills, and acute attention to detail
  • Excellent PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets, and ability to learn additional programs as required

Job Duties:

General Accounting (50%)

  • Support budget and forecasting activities
  • Collaborate with the other department managers to support overall department goals and objectives regarding budget
  • Support team in review of corporate and expense management platforms
  • Prepare and assist in the review of incentive pay, commissions, and general payroll
  • Prepare and assist in the review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of cash, receivables, and payables

Financial Reporting and Audit (25%)

  • Work collaboratively with general ledger team to ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
  • Prepare and assist in the review of PBC workpapers for annual full scope financial and 401K audit

Tax and Compliance (10%)

  • Work collaboratively with tax team to ensure the monthly and quarterly compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Work collaboratively with tax team to support business licenses/registrations (payroll withholding, sales, corporate, state) and ensure compliance for annual reporting and filing

Leadership and People Management (15%)

  • Manager and mentor the staff in problem solving, decision making, and planning activities
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive team when bridging the efforts between onsite and offsite teams
  • Demonstrate accountability, transparency, integrity, honesty, responsibility, and positively contribute to the UWorld culture while holding self and others accountable for meeting objectives and adhering to standards
