Your role, as Tax Assistant Manager, would be based in the Insurance Tax team, working in Bristol. Insurance Tax is a team of 10 colleagues, part of the wider Group Tax team of c.65 colleagues, providing tax compliance, reporting and advisory services to the Insurance, Pensions & Investments (IP&I) division. Our team currently employ hybrid working with a combination of office based days and home working.

Key accountabilities
  • Meeting Corporation Tax compliance, monthly statutory reporting and quarterly regulatory reporting obligations. This includes responsibilities for Scottish Widows Limited, as well as consolidated reporting for the IP&I division.
  • Preparation and understanding of Solvency II tax adjustments.
  • Preparation of tax forecasting numbers.
  • Building strong relationships with the business, with particular focus on capital and liquidity teams and wider Group tax.
  • Challenge and improve existing processes, align tax procedures to meet both business and Group Tax requirements.
  • Coach and support junior members of the team to ensure development.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and identify efficiencies and better ways of working.

Key Capabilities, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Qualified accountant or tax adviser with significant up-to-date knowledge and experience of life insurance.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to articulate complex tax matters in a clear and concise manner to non-tax colleagues, in both verbal and written communications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to the wider Group Tax team and to act seamlessly as local business partner to IP&I colleagues.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent IT and organisational skills.
  • Strong judgement and management skills.
