Deputy Finance Manager

Pay Rates:
£12.00-£15.50 paye per hour
£13.00-£16.50 paye inclusive of holiday pay per hour
£14.00-£17.50 umbrella per hour

Working Days and Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm
Job Purpose
The post holder will assist and support the Deputy Director of Finance - Operations and Financial Services team in the provision of an efficient and pro-active financial accounting service. The Deputy Finance Manager is an essential part of the finance team, helping to support and advise on all financial matters
Duties
* Manage the Trusts cash position on a daily basis to optimise cash resources and meet statutory requirements in conjunction with Finance Manager and Deputy Director of Finance - Operations. Ensure that adequate cash flow is available at all times and that maximum interest is earned in accordance with NHS guidelines.
* Produce monthly statutory deduction pay over schedules and ensure these are paid in accordance with the timetable.
* Perform systems administration role including production of systems timetables, management of new starters and leavers and development of day-to-day control mechanisms to monitor outsourced agency’s performance.
* Manage the Chart of Accounts, including setting up new codes once approved.
* Develop the use of Business Intelligence reporting to maximise efficiency and enhance reporting capabilities.
* Assist the Finance Manager in ensuring procedure notes are maintained and updated for all work areas.
* Produce VAT information to statutory deadline, including ongoing review of Trusts compliance with Customs & Excise requirements.
* Reconcile cashbooks to bank accounts and general ledger control accounts on a weekly / monthly basis.
* Reconcile control accounts on a monthly basis, and ensure that all outstanding items are cleared, with full explanations on reconciling differences.
* Respond to queries regarding payment of personal salaries from SBS payroll and NNUH staff.
* Monitor Better Payment Policy (BPP) compliance including investigation of changes in performance. Report performances to budget holders/service managers on a weekly and/or monthly basis.
* Monitor Road Traffic Act income and produce monthly report on the actual position achieved, investigating variances as necessary.
* Establish, manage and ensure the month end closedown timetable is achieved and provide assistance to other teams if required.
* Ensure all accounting records, systems and files are accurately maintained.
* Provide cover for other team members during periods of absence.
* Attend and participate in Finance Team meetings where appropriate.
* Contribute to the broadening of financial awareness across the Trust, conduct regular reviews of procedures and policy guidelines and offer advice when appropriate.
* Maintain membership of the appropriate CCAB/AAT accountancy body.
* Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) in line with the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) requirements where appropriate.
* Act in accordance with proper standards of professional conduct and code of ethics as laid out by CCAB or other accounting bodies
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Full AAT Member or Graduate with 2 years relevant experience or equivalent
* Working experience in a financial services environment
* Intermediate knowledge/experience in use of Excel.
* Working use of finance systems
* Good communication skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* Good organisational skills
