The consulting team in PAS deals with a number of complex advisory services which may relate to local employees' tax matters and global mobility matters. People Advisory Services (PAS) builds and improves organizational and individual performance, delivering a highly complex and challenging mission, especially in an ever-changing working environment. As a member of PAS, the candidate will be part of a team with a wide variety of experiences. The candidate will gain unique experiences and valuable knowledge across capabilities, sectors and geographies. As the field of advisory and consulting specifically requires a strong technical understanding of local regulations as well as international law and practices, the candidate has to be well trained and experienced in technical writing techniques, which are often only found in candidates who have worked in a big four environment or a legal firm.

The opportunity

Our PAS Mobility practice provides services to manage the cost and risks involved in HR plans, employment tax and international tax matters. We advise the part of business strategy related to people. As an Assistant Manager, the candidate is already expected to be able to draft opinions; prepare calculations and report on specific technical matters. Further the client is expected to be able to manage specific projects and build client relationships. Working with global clients and other EY colleagues requires high communication skills, to address the most complex people challenges, and ultimately improve and drive sustainable business results.

Your key responsibilities

With the Mobility Tax team, you'll join a talented group of professionals that provide individual tax planning, advisory services and technical SARS dispute correspondence. Advice on tax implications related to the mobility of employees as well as corporate and employment tax planning. Our key capabilities include: Payroll & Mobility Tax Compliance, Income Tax Advisory & calculations, Cross-Border Share based incentive schemes & expatriate compensation. Specialised advice in remuneration policy and reward strategies.

The candidate will be engaged in complex compliance and advisory work; working with colleagues all over the globe, writing correspondence, providing authoritative advice/guidance, and review tax cost estimates. Preparing tax technical training material and facilitating the training. Specific advisory service in family trusts. Directly engaging our clients is vital, be ready to question and negotiate to provide results.

  • Successful delivery of Mobility (Expatriate) Tax projects: technical excellence and practical/business driven approach to solving complex client challenges
  • Generate revenue through identifying follow-on engagement opportunities and developing lasting relationships with clients; identify potential risks and opportunities to improve processes and acquire new business; contribute to business development and client pursuit activities
  • Family Trust technical advisory skills to grow this business.
  • Develop understanding of expatriate tax issues, trends, and maintaining your reputation as an authoritative professional.
  • Managing, coaching, and developing junior resources.

To qualify for the role, you must have
  • A bachelor's degree in related field; Higher Diploma in Tax or Honours in Taxation
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in expatriate tax: Big 4, global management consultancy firm, niche consultancy or in-house role with exposure to large-scale projects
  • An understanding of local and International tax laws
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to confidently communicate with colleagues and clients.
  • Analytical approach to tax; ability to convert complex data into meaningful strategic insights
