The CBA Hong Kong Branch, which was established in 1986, provides a wide range of wholesale banking solutions to Asian institutional clients who are interested in Australia business in Hong Kong. Our primary business is in institutional banking & global markets.

Do work that matters

The COO internship will see you be a part of a dynamic and diversified team across the Asia region reporting directly to the Senior Business Manager, COO Asia in Hong Kong. You will get exposure to different business areas and gain understanding of the banking sector from a front-to-back perspective by rotating into different teams throughout the internship The internship will focus on the management of non-financial risk within an organization and project management related to bank strategy execution. You will work with the COO Asia team who are accountable for the operational performance of the Branch accountabilities which include, but are not limited to:
  • Drive the end-to-end operational performance and control across Asia Branches
  • Collaborate with product, risk and client coverage teams to continuously improve management information systems and operational reports
  • Oversee governance and associated management information (MI) dashboards for the end-to-end risks, controls, outsourcing and supplier governance and relationship management across the region
  • Establish a disciplined and structured PMO function, to manage the governance and reporting, change management, stakeholder management and benefits realisation across the regions projects
  • Champion productivity and continuous improvement across the region to deliver initiatives that achieve operational excellence
  • Work with the compliance function to maintain knowledge of current and forthcoming regulatory / compliance changes relevant to international jurisdictions
  • Work alongside the Branch Head to act as a key point of contact regarding regional operations, performance and transformation initiatives
  • Work with Asia Branch leadership teams to further develop and explore the cross divisional business opportunities within the CBA group
  • Operational ownership of the crisis management and business continuity framework

We're interested in hearing from people who have:
  • Ability to suspend studies for a full year (12 months)
  • Excellent verbal and written English language skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Be self-motivated and proactive with a detail oriented mindset
  • Be able to manage own time/tasks effectively and efficiently with, at times, minimal supervision
  • Willing to learn, communicate ideas, ask questions and be an active member of the COO Asia team
  • Completing undergraduate studies with a major in Business preferred
  • Relevant experience in prior financial institutions would be an advantage but not necessary.
