Job description:

The purpose of the role and your unique contribution is to provide timely, accurate and professional weather insights for IAG's operations - this includes major event preparation, support, classification, reporting, post-event analyses and loss reserving. This role will also utilise weather and natural perils information to enhance IAG's natural peril pricing models. You will be part of a market-leading team that is responsible for delivering natural peril pricing and insights across the IAG Group.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accountability 1 - to assist with technical development of natural peril (especially meteorological perils) risk models for reinsurance, capital, pricing and claims purposes that address critical gaps in understanding.
  • Accountability 2 - to assist in weather event classification and reporting
  • Accountability 3 - to assist in the preparation of short-, medium- and long-term weather outlooks and analytical tools that enable the business to efficiently prepare and respond to major weather events
  • Accountability 4 - to assist with major weather event loss reserving and post-event analyses
  • Accountability 5 - to identify, understand and apply relevant and latest climate change and meteorological sciences for the purposes of improving IAG's perils pricing, community risk mitigation and strategy development.


Skills & Experience
  • Experience in severe weather forecasting, monitoring, reporting and analyses
  • Experience in utilising natural perils information for re/insurance analyses
  • Experience in working with big and complex data
  • Tertiary qualification/s majoring in meteorology, atmospheric science, natural hazards, applied mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, data analytics or related fields


Desired Experieces:
  • Experience in statistical software packages
  • Experience in database management tools
  • Experience in geospatial software packages (QGIS, ArcGIS or Mapinfo)
  • Experience in catastrophe model development
  • Experience in working in cross-function/team projects
