A successful company with a mandate to facilitate and encourage the export of South African goods and services is seeking an Economist to join their company.

PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE
  • Daily, apply analytical tools necessary to identify, assess, manage and monitor country credit/ industry risks; and, implement and maintain the company's underwriting engines to comply with international best practice.
  • Provide insurance premium quotations in accordance with the Underwriting Manual of the company and acceptable actuarial practices.
  • Provide inputs in the research process to identify trade and investment opportunities for the benefits of South African exporters and investors.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES, MEASURES & INTERFACES
  • Research, analysis, interpretation and preparation of reports summarizing economic data
  • Develop and apply the risk assessment methodologies and models.
  • Develop and apply Credit Risk Assessment Tools.
  • Independently investigate and prepare political, economic and industry briefs/reports of countries in which the copany would have political and commercial risk appetite.
  • Price risks in accordance with the company risk pricing models.
  • Monitor and manage country/sector risk exposure limits as well as single obligor limits, concentration risk in line with risk appetite document of the company.
  • Liaise with the other Business Units and management on operational issues and evaluation of project insurance applications.
  • Perform economic impact assessment and modelling.
  • Assist Unit Head in making decisions and recommendations for the risks assessment reports, specifically country and industry reports.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum B.Com(Honours) in Economics with subjects including Investment Management, Business Management, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Development Economics, Public Sector Economics, Political Science, Accounting, Statistical Methods (or Econometrics)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience is required in the field of economic research and analysis in a business or financial environment
