The Accounting Consultant for Specialty Benefits Compliance and Government Reporting Team is a meticulous and diligent professional. You are organized, deadline driven, and able to manage and fulfill audit requests and regulatory filings accurately and on time. You will also be responsible for the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements, based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other reporting based on government regulatory and contractual requirements. Presentation and professional writing skills are also necessary for success in this role. Must be able to handle multiple and competing priorities.

Primary Responsibilities:


    Serve as liaison between internal accounting teams and external auditors
    Lead and support external and internal audit
    Prepares and review MLR and other regulatory analytics for regulated entities
    Prepares, reviews, and presents quarterly legal entity financial packages
    Lead, collaborate, and coordinate resources and internal stakeholders in preparation of various government reporting including TPA Filings and other financial reports
    Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations and proposing solutions
    Participate in monthly and quarterly close activities
    Prepare journal entries as needed
    Perform balance sheet reconciliations
    Participate on working groups to develop and communicate innovative approaches for continued improvement in efficiency and effectiveness

    Required Qualifications:


      Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
      2+ years accounting experience including month end closing, preparation of financial statements, financial and variance analysis, and preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
      Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
      Intermediate to advanced use of Excel
      Functional knowledge of SQL/SAS a solid asset

      Preferred Qualifications:


        Ability to read and comprehend complex contract and technical documents
        Well-developed communication abilities with strong written and presentation skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills

        Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
