Vaco is currently partnering with a rapidly growing residential company in Aliso Viejo, CA on an Accounting Manager search. Ideal candidates will ideally possess a CPA license, public/private mix, minimum 3 years' experience in a management role and previous experience within real estate or property management will be preferred but not required. This will be a potential temp-to-permanent engagement that will be open to hybrid candidates. Responsibilities:
  • Monthly review of transactions, supporting documentation, detail general ledger, financial statements, balance sheet analyses, journal entries, and other supporting schedules/calculations prepared by property accounting team
  • Review of various reports included in monthly close package, including analysis of project-level variances arising from comparisons of actual results to prior month, forecasts, and annual business plan data
  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries prepared in accordance with GAAP, tax and/or other approved basis of accounting while analyzing monthly balances and supporting reconciliation
  • Coordinate, review and monitor property-level cash needs, including loan draws
  • Review and approve outgoing wire payments and divisional cash transfers
  • Directly supervises up to 8 employees in the property accounting group
  • Assist with coordinating audits of company financial statements and annual internal budgeting processes
  • Assist in the evaluation, establishment, and implementation of processes, policies, and procedures to improve overall efficiency of the accounting department and other associated groups within office
  • Heavy interface with transaction coordinators to review escrow and closing documents


Qualifiactions:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred
  • CPA license required
  • A minimum of five (5) years of financial accounting and reporting experience.
  • Prior work experience with a public accounting firm required
  • Prior management experience required
  • Extensive working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (or equivalent mid- to large- tier ERP) preferred
  • Understanding of policy and procedure implementation and internal control documentation
  • Real estate accounting experience preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, written and verbal communication, judgment and planning skills required
  • Must have excellent leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team, provide continued leadership, mentoring and support to team members
  • Must have strong reasoning skills, with the ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions
