The Senior Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for the collection, analysis and dissemination of financial crime intelligence to ensure risk exposure to ANZ is minimised. This is achieved by interrogating source systems and using analytical tools and intelligence analysis techniques to test and validate intelligence hypotheses, identify leading indicators and provide recommendations for effective monitoring and internal controls. Use public and private sector partnerships and ANZ data to develop strategic and tactical intelligence and monitoring controls to protect ANZ, our customers, staff and communities from Financial Crime.

What will your day look like

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Analyse financial, behavioural and social network data to identify patterns of criminal behaviour across all aspects of serious and organised financial crime (including money laundering and terrorism financing).
  • Develop, test and refine both new and existing Dynamic Monitoring Algorithms, making use of ANZ data sources (for example Teradata), to meet specific risk indicators; liaise with the Intelligence and Operational teams to understand requirements and project the alert quality and volume.
  • Use analytical tools and intelligence analysis techniques to test and validate intelligence hypotheses, identify leading indicators and provide recommendations for effective transaction monitoring rules and internal controls.
  • Assist with management of financial crime data assets, data sourcing and applications across the Financial Crime Portfolio (FCP).
  • Conduct analysis of customers suspected of financial crime and communicate findings to key stakeholders.
  • Produce intelligence products (e.g. intelligence reports and threat assessments) as required.
  • Provide advice on financial crime matters to stakeholders to ensure that they are informed and can make appropriate decisions.
  • Identify risk and control deficiencies and make recommendations to mitigate financial crime risk to the Business.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships (i.e. regulators and law enforcement) and ensure information is exchanged within regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide business support in maintaining ongoing BS11 compliance.


What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Advanced data management & manipulation skills - Excel, SQL, SAS, Python, Machine Learning.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including VBA, Pivot tables and formulas.
  • Good product and systems knowledge.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and good interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.
  • Experience in conducting investigations within financial crime/risk or compliance environment.
  • General understanding of Anti Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism.
  • Make sound and risk-based decisions using relevant information gathered from internal and external sources.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills as you will be conducting investigations on customers and account activity that pose ML/TF risks.
  • Experience in conducting investigations within financial crime/risk or compliance environment.
