Senior Accountant, Life 10-month Contract

Role Purpose:

Support Life Financial Control to deliver all statutory financial reporting requirements for the Life business unit and drive continuous controls enhancement and process efficiencies for the team.

Life Financial Control is a team of 13 working towards the common goal of delivering the statutory results. Members of the team share common tasks as well as owning unique tasks depending on the individual's role and experience. The wider finance team includes group financial control, business performance, tax, and risk and actuarial, teams operate in a highly interactive and collaborative manner.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the Life's valuation process and valuation committee requirements.
  • Liaise with operations area to ensure transactions in assigned entities have been booked
  • correctly in source systems integration to general ledger.
  • Prepare and post monthly recurring and ad-hoc journals.
  • Run tax calculations where applicable and ensuring correct effective tax rate is achieved
  • Run monthly balance sheet reconciliations to source data and resolving reconciliation issues
  • identified.
  • Completing the month end close to ensure the general ledger of assigned entities/groups within
  • Challenger Life Company Ltd (CLC), providing accurate and timely information and ensuring
  • general ledger data supports all reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare consolidation entries for assigned groups & handling consolidation issues that arise.
  • Provide monthly/quarterly results commentary for assigned financial statement items.
  • APRA, BAS and Tax Return submissions.
  • Preparation of statutory accounts for assigned entities where applicable.
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements for CLC and explanatory notes.
  • Preparation of audit files and dealing with auditors with regards to audit queries.
  • Other ad hoc duties as required E.g. level 3 assets analysis, asset class allocation analysis,
  • valuation approach analytics.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and assist with process changes.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships across the business.

Role Requirements:
  • Experience in identifying, assessing, evaluating and managing risks within a Finance function.
  • Microsoft Applications.
  • Tax & GST regulatory requirements.
  • Technical accounting.
  • APRA & ASIC regulatory requirements.
  • Financial instruments - derivatives, fixed income, equities.
