Here at the Coal Authority, we are looking for an Assistant Finance Business Partner to join our Finance Tema. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and In return, you will receive a competitive salary of up to £31,656.90 per annum.

We encourage applicants from anywhere in the UK – as long as you’re able to be in the Mansfield office for a minimum of 1-2 days a week and attend our regular team meetings in person, we embrace a hybrid working model as much as possible.

About the role:

As our Assistant Finance Business Partner, you will be responsible to the Principal Finance Manager for providing the management accounting and decision support services to the Authority’s management teams, incorporating financial planning and analysis, commercial support, performance monitoring and reporting.

Key responsibilities of our Assistant Finance Business Partner:

- Financial planning and analysis to incorporate;
  • Support the development and maintenance of financial models to support business planning and use in Corporate Plans, and Government Spending Reviews
  • Support the production of departmental annual Budgets and Forecasts, providing challenge and actively participating in Accountability reviews
  • Maintain and develop the management information reporting systems
  • Support headcount forecasting, reporting, analysis and requests for incremental headcount

- Performance monitoring and reporting of actual results through the production of monthly Management Accounts, commentary and variance analysis, for multiple stakeholders (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Board, Management Teams, Budget Holders).- Commercial support to include:
  • Support production, review and critique of business cases
  • Support contract tender processes for goods and services
  • Undertake financial appraisals

- Support the Authorities financial reporting and audit requirements as necessary, as well as ensuring compliance with HM Treasury’s Managing Public Money, Financial Reporting Manual and Fees & Charges.- Support accounting for Provisions, being the Authority’s future liabilities arising as a result of past coal mining activity.

About our Assistant Finance Business Partner:
  • Part-Qualified in recognised Accountancy Qualification
  • 3 years practical management accounting experience in the public or private sector
  • Breadth of experience in utilising financial systems
  • Advanced Excel user, intermediate proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
