Place of work

London/remote working, UK based

We have a hybrid working model – working in the London office a minimum of one day a week. This role is therefore reliant upon having fast, reliable Broadband connectivity at home.

Role overview

The Financial Controller will lead the production and communication of month end management accounts and annual statutory accounts to trial balance level. The role holder will manage the audit process and, on occasions, deputise for the CFO. It will involve working with the Jamaican head office in assisting with production of information for year end and month end consolidation.

The role will suit an ambitious, qualified accountant looking for a role where they can make a real impact and develop their career within a start-up digital bank. To be successful in the role the individual must be up to the challenge of full ownership of statutory accounts with the capability of process improvement and automation. They will be comfortable with tight deadlines, have a knowledge of IFRS accounting standards and be able to work in a small team.

Duties and responsibilities

Preparation of financial reporting
  • Prepare month end accounts including variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations ensuring key deadlines are met
  • Support FP&A in the production of financial MI for Board meetings
  • Consolidate monthly and annual accounts for reporting to Group
  • Supervise the Assistant Accountant to manage Accounts Payable, Cashbooks, and General Ledger

Audit
  • Manage the year end audit process
  • Prepare year end accounts under IFRS

Budget and Planning

• Support FP&A in the annual budgeting process, capital planning and liquidity planning. This will include working with the team on stress planning.

Process enhancement
  • Assist in the development of systems and processes and contribute to projects, as required
  • Payroll and pension administration (via outsourced providers)

Risk Management

• Review and update of financial and risk management policies, procedures and manuals

Other tasks
  • Monitor actual versus budget spend and produce reports for distribution to budget holders
  • Monitor cash balances across bank accounts and liaise with the Operations Team to ensure appropriate levels are maintained
  • Assist with producing monthly ALCO, EXCO and Board committee packs
  • Assist with monthly Group reporting submissions
  • Assist internal auditors with their enquiries on an ad hoc basis
  • Establish positive working relationship with members of the senior management team
  • Ensure the fair treatment of customers is actively considered and promoted within the Bank and remains central to our corporate culture
  • Comply with data security requirements, adhere to Bank policies and procedures at all times


Qualifications and experience
  • Qualified accountant ACA or ACCA
  • Experience in financial services industry – ideally a small bank or building society
  • Resilient and resourceful with the ability to take full ownership of tasks, producing work of a high standard on time
  • Proficient with Excel
  • Deadline and results driven with an eagerness for continuous improvement of the finance function
  • Able to communicate clearly in writing and in person
  • Willing to speak up – your opinion counts
  • Desire to learn, to work as team and make a difference
