JOB PURPOSE

The core purpose of the role is to create and maintain Burberry's strategic business plan and key growth projects, and enable their delivery and implementation. This role will act as an internal consultant to the business and work across all management functions to ensure that the strategy is well tracked and implemented.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and refresh Burberry's rolling strategic plan based upon: market and competitor dynamics environment, including emerging opportunities, competitor and economic threats. Situational assessments may include:
    • Consumer insight and market data
    • Scenario planning
    • Strategic plan that reflects capital & resource allocation
    • KPIs (customer, brand, product, operating & financial) and key milestones
    • Risk management considerations
  • Lead Business Growth projects:
    • Operating plans - coordinate the development of operational and functional operating plans that enable delivery of the strategy
    • Functional and regional growth strategies
    • Support and project management on special projects
  • Ensure company-wide projects are resourced / being progressed
  • Contribute strategic considerations into company-wide change initiatives
  • Prepare Annual Board Strategy Review and Board updates
  • Support preparation of investor presentations


PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Master's degree (MBA preferred)
  • 3-5 years commercial experience with a top rating from a strategic consultancy, investment bank or a business similar to Burberry
  • Strong intellect and analytical skills
  • Excellent understanding of luxury fashion market, at industry and individual competitor level
  • Demonstrable understanding of strategic analysis at both a corporate and business unit level
  • Experience in scanning the external environment to support strategy development, and combining strategic and analytical perspectives with a pragmatic commercial and action-oriented approach
  • A track record of successful implementation of strategic initiatives across business units and/or functions
  • Proven ability to successfully work across a luxury/fashion organisation; able to build relationships and respect, proven ability to painting a compelling picture, secure buy-in and commercial support for new initiatives and influence senior stakeholders
  • A self-starter who delivers own projects well and can also manage a team and work across more informal networks
  • A forward-thinker, not afraid to take risks to drive changes to traditional business models, capitalising on new technologies, partners and concepts
  • Cultural sensitivity and global outlook, including proven ability to work across markets
  • Strong resilience and ability to stand their ground appropriately in the face of challenge
