Work with a tech-forward practice with a clear progression path. Our Fareham client looks to hire a Senior Accountant with the opportunity to learn and progress to a leadership role.

In this position, you will work in a supportive environment with a happy team and a steady, interesting client portfolio. This is a ‘next generation’ opportunity for the right candidate to take the reins as Director in 3-5 years. Learn from the best and hone your skills while working with a fantastic team and client roster.

About the Workplace

Our client is a vibrant, growing practice with a team passionate about making accounting accessible to entrepreneurs and small business owners. The firm will soon merge with a similar practice to create one entity, from which the Managing Directors look to retire from in 3-5 years. (And hand over the reins to the successful applicant of this job advert!) The practice is tech-forward with a tandem focus on the value of in-person client visits.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a Senior Accountant who looks to progress into a leadership position. The practice is tech-forward combined with the value of in-person client visits. In this role you will:

  • Work with small business owners and similar organisations to support their accounting needs
  • Review bookkeeping, accounting, compliance and tax work done by team
  • Act as a primary contact for clients
  • Add value to basic services (management accounts, advise of business performance)
  • Organise, run and follow up programme of regular meetings, video and telephone calls with clients

This is a ‘next generation’ opportunity for the right candidate to take the reins as Director of two soon-to-be merged accounting practices in their combined entity. You will be coached, mentored and supported to eventually run a practice with 50-60+ clients and a turnover of £1million. The current Managing Directors look to retire within 3-5 years and leave the management of the firm to their second in command - maybe you!

What we are looking for:

This role will suit an ACA or ACCA qualified (newly qualified is fine) looking to progress to a Director role. You have excellent people and project management skills and a passion for making accounting accessible to clients. You aren’t afraid to get stuck in to solve a problem, you know how to maximise efficiency through technology, and you have a broad range of skills from Xero to accounting to taxation. Ideally, you have some advisory experience, but this is a skill the MDs are happy to mentor and coach you on as you progress in the role.

Is this you?

  • Qualified ACA or ACCA – newly so is fine, but must be qualified
  • High people management, organisational and communication skills
  • Hands-on problem-solver with a passion to help others
  • Sound project management skills with experience in successfully managing a client portfolio
  • Broad range of accountancy and finance skills from bookkeeping to accounting, and management accounts to taxation
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero
  • Modern, IT-led approach, familiar with connectivity and maximising efficiency through IT

What’s in it for you?

Work with fantastic clients and colleagues and have clear career progression in a supportive, tech-forward environment.

  • Role: Senior Accountant (to progress to Director)

  • Location:
Fareham office, with home-working one day per week
  • Position: Full Time

  • Salary:
    Up to £50,000, DOE
  • Benefits: 25 days holiday + benefits
