SUMMARY

The Controller is responsible for the financial, operational accounting, and limited tax planning, budgeting and reporting for a national district energy platformed (“Cordia”) owned by a leading private equity investor (“KKR”).  The Controller is responsible for overall controls at the Company, ensuring compliance with GAAP accounting and providing for a timely and accurate financial reporting process, and an efficient audit each year. The Controller works side by side with the Director of Financial Operations (who is responsible for long term forecasting, cash management, treasury functions and debt compliance, capital budgeting, procurement, risk management, AP, credit and acquisition support), and both report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Controller is expected to play a key role in identifying areas for improving and value add in the company’s new ERP implementation and in the finalization of the ‘carve out’ from the former owner (a large publicly traded energy company).
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Planning and Budgeting
 

  • Participate in business planning for Cordia, participate in setting financial goals and objectives for the company and its functional units Work with the CFO & Director of Financial Operations to manage the Company's annual budgeting and forecasting processes

Financial Reporting and Analysis
 

  • Provide overall leadership to an efficient, timely financial close process Oversee the preparation of internal management reports and analysis, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including both operating reports and financial reports which are compliant with GAAP
      Oversee the integrity of the General Ledger, transaction reporting, and the balance sheet on a real time basis, ensuring that all reconciliations are timely, accurate, complete and reviewed
      Provide leadership to a monthly business review process, working with the CFO
      Oversee the preparation of financial reports, as required by Cordia's investors
      Oversee the preparation of financial reports and certificates, as required by Cordia's lenders
      Drive cost leadership activities that result in cost reduction and profit improvement Develop and maintain a comprehensive corporate forecast for the company, with the capabilities to do commodity level analysis for each business unit and to analyze new scenarios of growth and expansion. Financial analysis will include forecasting financial statements as well as running funding sensitivities. Participate in all planning and budgeting exercises, and support the FP&A function, as needed in their routine reporting Provide the financial analysis support for all corporate financing activities Expand analysis to include ESG metrics Support the corporate, business development and operating divisions by providing thoughtful analysis which can identify areas for improvement

ERP and Accounting System

  • Collaborate with IT in development, implementation and enhancement of an effective and efficient ERP and accounting system, ensuring accurate data is provided to all corporate and operating units of the company (NetSuite has been chosen, and implementation is in progress)

Audits and Controls

  • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization.
      Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring audit issues are resolved, and compliance standards are achieved, and the annual financial statements and other required supplementary schedules and information are in accordance with U.S. GAAP
      Oversee the coordination of all activities of independent auditors for Cordia's non-US holding companies and non-US operating companies
     

Taxes

  • Coordinate federal tax planning with PE ownership representative and oversee all state income tax planning to the company, working with outside advisors
      Ensure compliance with all aspects of Sales & Use taxes in all jurisdictions
      Work with the Director of Financial Operations to oversee all aspects of sales, property and employment tax compliance for the company

Transaction Support

  • Support the financial interface with any company transactions, including any acquisitions, or transactions involving Cordia's in its entirety

General Management

  • Collaborate and work effectively with all levels of management and staff to ensure smooth operations and quick resolutions of issues
      Work with peers and direct reports to execute the mission, goals, priorities, and key performance measures of the business
      Ensure a high level of productivity, teamwork, and employee satisfaction among department staff
      Establish a system of accountability and monitor the performance and competency of direct reports, including conduction of timely performance reviews
      Develop a process of continuous improvement for accounting processes and procedures
      In conjunction with the business development team, review and support the financial analysis of new acquisitions and development activities
      Support all financial analysis requests of the PE owners, including periodic and timely updates of all corporate forecasts, responding to any ad hoc requests
      Participate on the commodities committee, providing require financially analysis to support the company’s purchase of natural gas, electricity, and other commodities
      Work with the legacy systems ERP (SAP/OneStream) and incoming ERP (NetSuite) to access, process and analyze data, as needed

EDUCATION

  • Any combination of education and experience which would be likely to produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Preference will be given to a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting CPA (active or inactive license) 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 7 years professional experience in accounting, experience in non-US holding and operating companies, experience in mergers and acquisitions and strong experience in ERP and accounting systems Experience or interest in power & utilities, energy or district energy industries

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Excellent, demonstrable Excel skills, as well as other Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint and Word) Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills Demonstrated knowledge of financial building blocks (accounting, capital structure, valuation analysis) Ability to work with ERP and accounting software, with preference given to NetSuite
