As a Billing Representative supporting the Third-Party Claim Development and Remittance Application process, you will utilize various methods to reconcile Accounts Receivable for the purpose of collecting and / or posting revenue for the organization. You will work to reconcile, and problem solve issues related to patient, client and / or third-party insurance bills. You'll play a critical role in creating a quality experience that impacts the financial well-being of our patients. You'll be the expert problem solver as you work to quickly identify, analyze and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment. If selected for this position, it is required that you successfully complete the UnitedHealth Group new hire training and demonstrate proficiency to continue in the role.

This position is full - time (40 hours / week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime, weekends, and / or holidays. This position is primarily telecommute, however, you must be available to go into the office as needed for training, meetings, etc., depending on business needs. Training will be conducted virtually from your home.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and apply denials to third party carriers in all media types
  • Comply with departmental Business Rules and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Focus efforts on decreasing the Accounts Receivable, increasing cash, and / or reducing bad debt
  • Interpret explanation of benefits for appropriate follow up action
  • Applies third party, client and patient payments and denials to patient accounts both manually and electronically
  • Completes and tracks refunds / adjustments to customer's accounts, while providing necessary back - up information
  • Contacts / coordinates with IT or third party carriers on file issues
  • Releases electronic files and resolves error reports
  • Completes timely carrier recoupment requests
  • Resolves and researches misdirected cash issues
  • Conducts data entry and remittance posting and reconciliation activities
  • Utilize automation tools to verify eligibility, claim status and / or to obtain better billing information
  • Create work list through database and manipulate data to analyze for trends and resolve claims for adjudication
  • Review and research denied claims by navigating multiple computer systems and platforms, in order to accurately capture data / information for processing
  • Communicate and collaborate with members or providers to evaluate claims errors / issues, using clear, simple language to ensure understanding
  • Conduct data entry and rework for adjudication of claims
  • Work on various other projects as needed
  • Meet the performance goals established for the position in the areas of: efficiency, accuracy, quality, patient and client satisfaction and attendance

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years' experience within the Healthcare / Insurance billing industry
  • Experience using computers and Windows PC applications, including keyboard and navigation skills and ability to learn new computer programs
  • Ability to work any 8-hour shift between the hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM including the flexibility to go into the office as needed for training, meetings, etc., work occasional overtime, weekends, and / or holidays based on business need

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Some College level (or higher)
  • Medical terminology acumen and experience

Telecommuting Requirements:
  • Reside within a 1 - 1.5 hour commutable distance from any UHG office
  • Have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Reside in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $16.00 - $26.88. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $16.83 - $29.66.
