HEPACO services a multitude of industries including transportation, utilities, energy, environmental consultants, industrial facilities, terminals, environmental service companies, general contractors, property owners, and the public sector through our Environmental and Remediation Services divisions.

We're currently seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Charlotte NC based Finance team, assisting with general accounting operations by controlling and verifying our financial transactions. As a Senior Accountant, you'll have a solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and be prepared to reconcile account balances, maintain the general ledger, and execute month-end close procedures. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will work with many groups within the Company, both internally and externally, including: Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, FP&A, Fleet, IT and external auditors & consultants. We’re looking for someone with strong Excel skills, detail-oriented, highly organized, the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and collaborate well throughout our Finance team and across functions.

 

 

Our business is growing very quickly and while you will be empowered to take ownership of your work product, there will be times that action will be required without extensive up-front guidance, but you would never go at it alone!



While based from our Charlotte NC headquarters, this position is a hybrid role offering significant flexibility for a combination of in-office and remote working.

Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Analyze and maintain general ledger balance sheet accounts by collecting data, reconciling the general ledger control accounts to sub-ledgers, and explaining variances.
  • Communicate across the departments to resolve outstanding reconciliation items in a timely manner for month end close.
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries resulting from the balance sheet reconciliation process, variance analysis, and month-end close.
  • Own various month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Own general ledger processes and identify, draft and implement enhancements to those processes.
  • Uphold the quality of our financial results through understanding the lifecycle of data flowing through a set of general ledger accounts
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
  • Analyze account variances to prior periods and budget
  • Query data for analysis to respond to inquiries from the field or management
  • Assist with the annual audit process by providing schedules and responding to inquiries from external auditors
  • Assist with special projects, including Acquisitions and associated reporting


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Associate’s degree to be considered with applicable work history
  • 5+ years of finance/accounting experience
  • Thorough working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong attention to detail and the ability to complete job duties with a high degree of accuracy
  • Robust analytical skills
  • Flexibility to work cross functionally monthly within various department workgroups and the Core Accounting Group
  • Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team with peers and leadership within the organization
  • Ability and understanding of the use of a personal computer and appropriate software, including but not limited to: Excel, Word and Outlook; with a strong emphasis on Excel


Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry file boxes and other awkward items weighing up to 25 lbs, including up and down stairs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday.
