About the role

New Zealand Police is the lead agency responsible for reducing crime and enhancing community safety. We work in partnership with individuals, communities, businesses and other public sector agencies to achieve our purpose - Be Safe, Feel Safe.

Tāmaki Makaurau is the identity for the three Police Districts in Auckland. It represents the intent of the District Commanders to draw together the collective capability of the three separate districts and deploy in a more integrated manner to achieve improved outcomes.

The role of Performance is to provide information and analytics supporting decision making at the strategic, management, operational and tactical levels to achieve better outcomes for the community.

This is a rewarding and challenging position that will research, develop and maintain an overview of the performance environment, develop and maintain information products, deliver internal performance frameworks, provide internal and external reporting and communication to support Police strategies and improve performance. This position will report to the Performance Manager and lead a team of two Analysts. The Performance Group will be based in Otahuhu. Some flexibility in the start time of the working days is likely to be possible.

Key accountabilities include:
  • Developing and maintaining Police's performance management framework and wider performance management system
  • Providing and presenting on performance analysis and advice to strategic decision-makers
  • Working collaboratively and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, particularly subject-matter experts and data and research practitioners
  • Confidently liaising with business stakeholders to understand their need and data capture processes
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to confidently deliver effective presentations and being comfortable engaging with all levels of the organisation, making complex information easy to understand and having the ability to build strong relationships
  • Lead a team of two Performance Analysts
  • Demonstrate the ability to create innovative ideas and solutions in relation to anticipating and responding to changing needs

We need someone who:
  • Has a tertiary qualification in commerce, science, statistics, information management, public policy, or other similar disciplines;
  • Has an analytical and curious mind;
  • Is customer-centric and a clear and concise communicator; and
  • Has experience using SAS (desirable).
  • Short-listed applicants will be provided a data set prior to interview, requiring basic analysis, and to construct a brief PowerPoint presentation summarising their analytical findings - to be presented at interview.
  • An analytical assessment may be required of short-listed applicants, following interview, to assess Excel proficiency, analytical capability, and problem-solving ability.
  • The successful applicant must reside in Tamaki Makaurau
  • Minimum of four years' experience as an Analyst or Performance Advisor
