?We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Energy Economist to join our Regulatory Affairs & Policy team. Centrica's Regulatory Affairs & Policy team understands, provides advice regarding and seeks to influence the legal and regulatory framework of the energy sector so that Centrica businesses can work effectively within it.

As a Senior Energy Economist, you will be responsible for leading on economic analysis of proposed and existing energy policy and regulation, seeking to influence the form of future policy and regulation through the application of robust economic analysis.

The Role:

  • Help develop/shape regulatory funding mechanisms, with a particular focus on enabling opportunities for Centrica to exploit new net zero commercial opportunities

  • Lead on the analysis of regulatory Impact Assessments (IAs), to ensure regulatory change proposals are demonstrably in the interests of our customers

  • Through close working and day-to-day interactions, build the knowledge and understanding of the principles of regulatory economics across the legal and regulatory affairs team

  • Manage the work of any external economic consultants when they are required to ensure that they add maximum value

  • Lead on economic analysis of key policy and regulatory proposals and opportunities

  • Close working relationships with senior Centrica management is a critical aspect of the role and close support to business areas by the team is essential

  • Develop excellent working relationships at all levels of Centrica Group, and with a wide range of key external stakeholders.

The Person:

  • An excellent understanding of applying economic analysis to policy and regulation

  • Experience and knowledge of network/infrastructure/asset regulation, regulatory finance and cost modelling

  • An understanding of the energy sector, and application of economic analysis in the sector

  • Trained in economics, or significant experience in applied economics and regulatory finance

  • Ability to build constructive relationships at all levels of an organisation

  • Ability to manage cross-functional project teams

  • Excellent communicator who leads our engagement on relevant issues, with regulators and other external stakeholders, with concise and credible messages

  • True collaborator who maintains a balanced view of the business and can effectively push back on all levels of management when needed

  • Desire to continually improve, seek out new ways to deliver value and to support the business objectives

  • Excellent verbal, presentation and reasoning skills.
