Our Client:

This leading University based in South West London, has a friendly and lively academic community. Their international student base is rapidly growing and they are well known for their outstanding academic teaching. They have C.900 employees, £130m Turnover and a large finance function.

Role:

Working closely with other senior Finance colleagues & co-ordinating work across teams, the

postholder will prepare the University's annual finance returns and Transparent Approach to

Costing (TRAC) returns for submission to the Office for Students (OfS) and will also ensure that

the finance team record and hold financial data in compliance with the statutory requirements as

dictated by the OfS or other bodies. The postholder also prepares requests for Financial data, such

as those that come via the University's Freedom of Information team and ensures compliance with

statutory reporting requirements as well as ensuring consistency in the reporting of data.

1. Compiling the data for the University's Finance returns, ensuring its compliance with OfS

requirements and making recommendations for changes to the management of financial

data across the University to ensure statutory compliance.

2. Quality assuring financial data throughout the year in preparation for statutory external

returns such as the OfS finance return, the TRAC and TRAC(T) returns, HEBCI, etc and

issuing updates to the finance teams on the recording and holding of that data to ensure

best practice and compliance.

3. Responsibility for co-ordinating the timely submission of the returns by the required

deadline(s) and managing internal approval requirements.

4. Identifying opportunities to enhance the financial system to automate the returns process

where possible.

5. Liaising with the University Planning team to ensure that student number forecasting is

completed as per the University reporting timetable and responsible for the Finance student

number forecast.

6. Manage responses to Freedom of Information requests on behalf of Finance, providing

advice to ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements for all

responses involving financial information.

7. Manipulate and interrogate data to illustrate trends and identify financial performance

against KPI's and create and publish reports showing this information for the Director of

Finance.

8. Responsible for monthly returns to the National Office for Statistics.

9. Liaise with outside bodies such as the British Universities Directors Group, Higher Education Statistics Agency and the Office for Students and resolve any queries with relating to returns or new issued guidelines.

10. To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by the Director of Finance

Successful Candidate:

  • Finalist or Part Qualified Accountant
  • Strong on Excel ( V look ups, Pivot Tables) and experience working on large amounts of data
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience on returns, in particular within the HE, Government or NHS sector
