Job Summary

The New Zealand business is recruiting for a Finance Business Partner to join a progressive organisation with a great team culture in either of our four offices in Auckland (preferred), Hamilton, Wellington or Christchurch.

The Finance Business Partner is a key role for driving strategic financial insights to improve business performance, working capital and project delivery. By fostering a close relationship with the Project Delivery, Operations and Finance teams, this role will drive financial awareness and acumen within the business unit throughout the project life cycle. Key responsibilities are to support the delivery of financial plan, provide guidance and generate key insights gained through data analysis and building key relationships, adding value to forward-looking outlooking and decision making.

Reporting to the Regional Finance Director, the Finance Business Partner is the main point of contact for financial support for the relevant business unit(s) and project teams.

The main responsibilities will depend on the experience level of the successful applicant and may include:
  • Monitoring the financial performance of projects, conducting project reviews to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare and present monthly profit and loss reporting including all monthly/quarterly management accounting reports.
  • Drive working capital improvement through the Business Unit.
  • In-month forecasting of financial results and outlooking to end of financial year
  • Analysis of business line overheads, ensuring cost efficiency and aligning spend to strategy
  • Monthly pipeline/backlog calculations including review of underlying data
  • Ad hoc Business Line reporting and trend analysis, including reporting on performance, market analysis and identifying areas of growth,
  • Interpreting and presenting financial data to non-finance people, providing insights fostered through key relationships and understanding of the business to drive improved project and business performance.
  • Understand contract commercial framework for major projects, ensuring revenue recognition and invoicing aligns with the commercial framework.
  • Commercial input to tenders, including costing and development of pricing models
  • Support with mobilising / healthy start of projects to ensure set up for success
  • Training and support of Project Accounting teams
  • Understand and comply with SOX legislation and AECOM Compliance Policies and Procedures
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and processes that help ensure the ongoing quality and efficiency of our work.
  • Actively encourage creative ideas of others, championing new ideas to higher-level management.
  • Communicate difficult or complex ideas clearly and effectively, with a wide variety of senior, technical, business and management audiences.
  • Be able to step in and support the Regional Finance Director as required

Minimum Requirements
  • Extensive, demonstrable experience in a similar role, management accounting or audit.
  • Solid understanding of accounting concepts
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to link project performance to P&L performance
  • Ability to transform data into key insights
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel

Preferred Qualifications
  • Appropriate tertiary qualification
  • 3+ years post tertiary qualified experience
  • Member of (or working towards) CA / CPA preferred
