Our client is on the lookout for *Senior Business Intelligence (BI) & Analytics *talent to strengthen the BI department's capacity to improve business outcomes by leveraging data and close partnerships with Business. The role is open to applicants from Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Pretoria.
The Senior BI Analyst role reports into a leader within the Business Intelligence department and will be directed to partner with stakeholders in a particular business area. The position is responsible for building scalable data & analytics models and reporting solutions to enable data analysis and end- user self-service access to data, all with the aim to apply the insights gathered from data to support decision making and solve business problems.
The Senior BI Analyst is expected to portray mature soft skills such as being able to hold others accountable, influencing change and managing expectations of customers (business) and internal team members. This role also suits and provides opportunities to experienced analysts already possessing or looking to build leadership skills and manage a small team.
Internal liaison takes place with all internal departments. External liaison takes place with third parties, as required.
*Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):*

* Partner with stakeholders across all levels and business areas to take-on and propose data- driven solutions to aid the execution and fulfilment of their business strategy
* Elicit business requirements and translate them into the appropriate data modelling, reporting and analysis specifications, employing critical thinking to ensure alignment with the actual business need
* Engage with Source System Product Owners and Architects to gain an understanding of the data collection, logging, and architecture underlying our clients products and business processes. In addition, provide corrective feedback where needed to ensure that the availability, quality, and structure of the source system data can satisfy downstream data & analytics requirements
* Take ownership of all projects allocated to you, create & maintain the corresponding project roadmap, and proactively communicate the status (including blockers, risks, issues) of the project with all affected stakeholders
* Proactively identify and resolve issues or bottlenecks that may impair your or the team's
ability to meet delivery goals

* Profile and validate all data intended for use in reporting or analytics to ensure high data quality (business relevance, accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness)
* Design, build, deploy, and maintain data models that are optimized for high performance, scale, reusability, ease of maintainability and auditability
* Design, build, deploy, and maintain reporting semantic layers (on-top of said data models) and reports structured and documented in a manner that enables and facilitates end user self-service access and use of the data.
* Perform data analysis to extract key insights and observations to influence and/or support business decisions and actions
* Share data and analysis results visualized in a manner that is intuitive to the audience and improves access and visibility into the data
* Train and support user community in the use of reports, BI tools, and the interpretation of analysis results
* Incorporate DevOps practices in all data model and report development; includes but not limited to version control, data validation/testing and automated integration and deployment
* Help define and improve upon our data warehousing, data governance, and analytics standards & practices through knowledge sharing, internal collaboration, conducting peer reviews, mentorship, and contribution to internal documentation
* Continuously upskill and stay abreast of new developments in the Data Analytics and Modelling space (tooling, methodologies, applications)
*Key Requirements:*

* Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
* Qualification in a quantitative field (includes but not limited to - Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Business Analytics)
* 4+ years working experience within Data Analytics or Business Intelligence, driving Analytics/BI projects to successful completion, resulting in business impact.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills to gather and effectively communicate Analytics/BI project requirements, outcomes, results, and status.
* Strong communication and presentations skills able to appropriately structure communication to fit the type of audience e. technical vs. non-technical and organizational level (e.g., executive vs. operational manager)
* Be commercially curious with the ability to understand a business area and its strategic outcomes, as well as the business processes and metrics/levers that drive its
* Strong report/dashboard development and data visualization skills with modern BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik)
* Extensive experience building semantic models for enterprise-wide reporting
* Strong Data Modelling expertise (e.g., dimensional Kimball)
* Advanced SQL skills (development and optimization)
* Advanced Excel skills
* R or Python programming for data analytics (desirable)
* Knowledge of data analysis techniques, such as time series analysis, scenario analysis, clustering & segmentation, regression, decision trees, forecasting, and interpretation & creation of probability distributions (proficiency in a few of these will suffice)
*Additional Skills/Experience:*

* Experience working in the Financial Services, Retail, Technology industries or high growth businesses Experience working with cloud-based data analytics platforms, such as Azure, Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift
* Experience with DevOps practices and tools, including version control, infrastructure-as- code, automated testing, and CI/CD
* Teamworking and collaboration with keen interest on sharing knowledge
* Excellent organisational skills with ability to adapt and juggle many tasks without losing sight of the highest priority items and able to stay focused under pressure
* Passionate about your own self-development, adaptable and have a growth mindset
* Execution-oriented, and able to complete tasks independently using own initiative
