Your new role

Interim Head of Financial Operations

Responsible For:
Financial Operations Teams:


  • Accounts Payable & Procurement
  • Accounts Receivable & Student Funding
  • Payroll & Pensions.


  • Main Purpose The post has a three-fold focus:


  • Ensuring strong financial controls and accurate and timely collection, payment and recording of accounting transactions
  • Managing x 3 direct reports.
  • Supporting the teams as they transition to a new system with associated changes in processes and record keeping. (Current Head seconded full time to the project).


  • What you'll need to succeed

    Qualifications/Experience:
    Essential:

    • Demonstrable experience of managing a financial operations team or teams ideally in a hands-on way.
    • Demonstrable experience of managing accounting policies and procedures and creating and reviewing financial reports in order to ensure accurate, timely robust financial records.
    • Experience of working in a large, complex organisation or demonstrable equivalent experience.
      • Demonstrate excellent IT skills including Gmail, Word, Excel, and database and bespoke finance systems.

    Desirable:

    • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA)/educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
      • To have worked in an HE sector environment
      • Knowledge of Dream and / or Tech 1 accounting system

    Skills & Knowledge
    Essential:

    • Demonstrable problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at using discussion to reach compromise positions when conflict arises.
      • Understanding of integration of electronic processes connecting core financial systems with supporting systems

    Personal Qualities:
    Essential:

    • Highly self-motivated.
    • A skilled communicator who thrives in working with and developing people
    • Ability to prioritise and schedule own and team's workload in the face of conflicting demands.
    • A calm manner, able to respond to problems or issues in a pragmatic and logical way, engendering collaboration between colleagues and team building.
    • Actively creates a positive and enjoyable atmosphere in which to work.

    Special Conditions: This post is for 37 hours per week.
