Your new role
Southend-on-Sea City Council has a great opportunity for a Finance Officer to join the Social Care Income Team on a full time and permanent basis. This role will be based within a dynamic and forward thinking team working across the office and at home.

The Finance Team undertakes financial assessments of service users in accordance with Southend Council policy and Government Regulations and Guidelines for contributions for services provided. They raise invoices in respect of income due to the department and carry out debt recovery for outstanding income according to the Departmental and Corporate debt policies. Your focus will be income recovery, you will maintain computerised records of payments and commitments in accordance with procedures, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of accounting systems.

You will liaise effectively with service users and families, providers, suppliers, staff of Southend Council and other agencies in order to provide an efficient service, responding to queries in a helpful and courteous manner.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, previous experience of working within a Finance Team is essential. It is also essential that you have good levels of numeracy and possess the ability to analyse financial data. You need to have strong communications and interpersonal skills as you will be liaising with various stakeholders. You need to be able to work on your own as well as be part of a team and you must be able to manage your own workload. Previous income collection experience will be highly desirable for this role.

Ability to use various MS packages especially Teams and Excel is vital to be successful in this role. Accounting / Finance qualification (AAT / ACCA) would be advantageous but not essential.
