The Role

Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant, the Graduate Trainee Management Accountant will oversee the daily financial activities of multiple legal entities (operating assets), with regular reporting to internal stakeholders and external clients. You will oversee the finances from start to finish and will ensure monthly management accounts are completed on time (including cash flows, prepayments, accruals, journal posting, reporting etc) with a focus on providing excellence to our clients. You will help with statutory accounts preparation and ensuring that they are ready for review on time and that they are compliant with the Companies Act and the respective accounting standard (IFRS, FRS 102 or FRS 101) – this will require working with internal finance team members, operational managers, external auditors and external clients.

The UK and Ireland Asset Management department looks after operating renewable projects which includes wind farms, solar farms and storage plants. Within this department, the finance team leads on commercial, financial and statutory compliance of the entities owning the projects and reports directly to asset owners and lenders.

Accountabilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts including all journal postings
  • Prepare, manage and deliver cash flow forecasts by collaborating with internal asset managers and clients
  • Debtor management for entities
  • Prepare periodic financial reporting and variance to budget analysis for internal and external clients on an accurate basis
  • Prepare periodic VAT returns for entities
  • Help prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
  • Support in the preparation of annual statutory accounts (in IFRS, FRS 102 or FRS 101) for the audit of respective project companies, including consolidated sets of accounts
  • Help with onboarding of new projects into the asset management portfolio
  • Support continuous improvements to accounting and reporting processes together with the wider finance teams
  • Support with regular queries from the operational business
  • Complete additional tasks to meet changing business needs and departmental goals
  • Business partnering with respective asset managers for internal reporting and provide information requested; Being our client's secondary point of contact for finance related queries/issues and maintaining a relationship with them daily.

Knowledge

  • Robust understanding of accounting

Skills

  • IT/Microsoft Excel skills including vlookups and pivot tables
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong self-review ethic
  • Credibility to communicate to external parties
  • A team player but with the discipline to work autonomously
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to articulate financial information to non-finance specialists

Experience

  • Preferable to have had placement in accounting department

Qualifications

  • Degree in an Accountancy-based discipline (Minimum 2.1)
