An investment advisor in Connecticut is actively seeking an experienced and driven professional to join their Payroll & Reporting team as its Assistant Controller. In this role, the Assistant Controller will manage the full life cycle of payroll functions for offices, both domestic and international.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Controller will:
  • Prepare calculations and inputs for all payrolls
  • Assess and process new hires, terminations, status changes, tax changes, domestic and international transfers, 401k calculations, timesheet data, compensation changes, employee detail changes, retroactive adjustments, garnishments, and supplemental payments entered into the ADP payroll module
  • Reconcile employee benefit enrollments and deductions with Human Resources
  • Assist with accounting/general ledger functions as it relates to payroll and compensation
  • Develop, plan, and schedule payroll processes to meet deadlines and provide adequate time for submission, review, and approval
  • Investigate and resolve errors and reconciliation items on a timely basis
  • Keep process documentation up to date
  • Develop, track, and report on key performance indicators with a mindset for continuous improvement, improving service levels, and reducing costs
  • Liaise with department heads, management, and others to provide guidance and answer questions on payroll policies
  • Review and ensure timely issuance of forms W-2
  • Prepare quarterly 941 reconciliation
  • Prepare annual workers compensation audits
  • Oversee compliance with international employee taxation issues
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • 5+ years' experience with an emphasis in multi-jurisdiction payroll
  • Experience in design and preparation of internal and end-user procedures, policies, instructions, and forms
  • Experience using ADP or similar payroll system
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, and query tool
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to function in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent analytical skills
