Our client, a non-profit in Trenton, NJ, is seeking an Accountant to support their busy organization. This is temp-to-hire role with flexibility towards part-time or full-time hours. Hybrid work environment after training with the majority of the time WFH if preferred.

Job Description
This position, under the direction of the CFO, will provide support to the organization's finance and business operations. It will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the accounting and reporting systems as well as the development and maintenance of internal financial controls; day-to-day accounting procedures, month-end close and ad hoc projects as necessary and requires general accounting responsibilities including journal entries, accounting reconciliations and accruals. Additionally, this position is responsible for all financial accounting transactions stemming from development and fundraising activities.
This position provides opportunities for growth and will work in a hybrid and flexible work environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business or Accounting
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Must be detailed oriented with the ability to provide accurate and timely information
  • Excellent computer skills - must have strong proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and through collaboration
  • Familiarity with non-profit accounting preferred
  • Familiarity with Sage50 and WIP preferred

Essential Functions
AP DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages Accounts Payable

• Correspondence with branches to ensure proper and timely accounting for purchases and expenses

• Verifying expense reports and underlying receipts, ensuring accordance with policies

• Monthly credit card purchase reconciliations

• Recording bills and invoices into accounting system

• Preparation of payments via check, ACH or wire transfer and ensuring adequate documentation

• Preparation and posting journal entries

• Reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts

• Maintaining motor vehicle register

• Corresponding and following up with vendor inquiries

• Assist VP/CFO with special projects

• Provide information for auditors and other special projects

• Comply with internal controls and best practices

FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages accounting functions for all donor pledges, including recording of pledges, invoicing, cash receipts, and month-end close reports,

• Generates financial reports, as needed

• Serves as accounting point person for Annual Campaign

• Prepare and mail monthly billing statements

• Responsibility for donor systems and database management

• Grant management, accounting and analysis

• Assist VP/CFO with special projects

• Provide information for auditors and other special projects

• Comply with internal controls and best practices
