Position Summary:

 

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for general ledger month end close process for core Government Savings and Health Savings businesses. Lead the preparation and reconciliation of balance sheet and income statement accounts in compliance with accounting standards and ensure support for audit purposes. Work with management to support reporting and analysis while also assisting to drive process improvement.

 

 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

 

Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

Lead monthly financial close for core Government Savings line of business and Health Savings line of business.

 

Lead process improvement efforts within the consolidated Health Savings line of business including integration of acquisitions and standardization of processes.

 

Oversee the revenue recognition process for Government Savings using Alteryx.

 

Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, perform account fluctuation analyses, and investigate account variances.

 

Work with FP&A team monthly to assist in investigating identified budget and forecast variances.

 

Support management in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements. 

 

Prepare journal entries and assist the other legal entities as needed, analyzing the income statement, preparing financial statements and completing account analysis.

 

Prepare analysis of income statement and balance sheet fluctuations monthly.

 

Support of external audit requirements and maintenance of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance reporting and documentation.

 

Prepare and maintain narrative documentation over processes and procedures while ensuring compliance with internal control requirements.

 

Ensure appropriate revenue recognition and expense recognition under U.S. GAAP and assist in researching guidance and writing memos to document positions, as necessary.

 

Lead and assist with special projects for management and other financial functions within the department as required.

 

 

 

Requirements: 

 

 

 

Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, CPA preferred.

 

Minimum of 3 years of experience performing similar responsibilities required.

 

Public accounting background preferred.

 

Financial services industry experience a plus.

 

Ability to work within tight timeframes.

 

Highly analytical and detail oriented with an aptitude for problem solving along with strong organizational skills.

 

Ability to effectively collaborate with other functional areas to achieve overall organizational objectives.

 

Experience with general ledger systems required Lawson experience highly desired.

 

Excellent Microsoft Excel skills required.

 

Independent self-starter.
