We are looking for an Assistant Accountant (AA) to join our committed, friendly, and focussed Financial Accounting Team. This is a permanent role, based in our central Wellington office.
About the role:
The AA role is part of the Finance team and the wider Corporate Services Group. The AA has no direct reports and reports to the Team Leader Financial Accounting.
The AA is responsible for assisting with maintenance of the control environment, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, the delivery of timely and accurate month end journals, assisting with month end and year end processes, providing administrative support for Treasury functions, assisting with statutory compliance, and maintaining a consistently high level of service to our stakeholders.
Skills and experience required:

* Appropriate accounting degree e.g. BCA, B.Com, member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (or equivalent).
* 2 years of experience in financial accounting, with an ability to understand complex organisations. Experience in Local Government would be advantageous.
* Experience with large, complex financial information systems (Tech One).
* Ability to use Microsoft Excel to an advanced level.
* Good knowledge of GST and FBT
* Knowledge of Treasury would be advantageous
* Ability to operate in a manner conducive to the Council culture.
* Accuracy in the processing of information, data analysis and take responsibility for assigned tasks and duties, completing them to a high standard.
* Demonstrated ability and desire to improve processes and procedures.
