Accountant/Finance Business Partner
Wētā FX is looking for an Accountant/Finance Business Partner to join our Accounting team.
Wētā FX is one of the world's premier visual effects companies. Known for its culture of creativity and innovation, it has created some of the most memorable movie characters and worlds of the last twenty years. Wētā FX established its reputation for cutting-edge visual effects with work on blockbusters like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and Avatar, and has six Visual Effects Oscars to its credit. The company has recently completed work on Netflix's Umbrella Academy, Avengers: Endgame, and Gemini Man. We have a headcount of over 1500 crew members and are located across 12 sites in Wellington's Eastern Suburbs.
Reporting to the Finance Director (FD) the Accountant/Finance Business Partner will be working with other experienced accountants on all financial accounting matters for the Wētā FX business.
They will work closely with the FD and the wider Finance team to complete and improve the month-end accounting activities. Key responsibilities include responsibility for foreign subsidiaries, tax compliance in NZ and overseas, R&D tax credits, and payroll oversight. The Accountant/Finance Business Partner will assist other team members with their workload, perform peer reviews and work with the team on various projects.
We view this role as a unique opportunity to join a well-established organisation in a role that has a good range of challenges with the scope to gain a broader range of involvement. Candidates will be a Chartered Accountant with experience in a commercial enterprise, with advanced excel skills.

Responsibilities
Foreign subsidiaries:
- Payroll including pension schemes
- Billing and payables
- Month-end and reporting
Tax:
- Tax compliance in NZ and overseas, working with our tax consultants
- R&D tax credit regime documentation and filing
Other:
- Payroll oversight and projects
- Assisting other team members with workload and reviews
- Process improvement
- System implementations
Essential experience:
- Commercial experience in mid-large enterprise
- Experience in process improvement and developing new reports/systems/processes
- Advanced excel skills
- Experience with mid-large ERP and reporting systems
- Commitment to exceptional customer service standards (internal and external)
Desirable experience:
- Experience in a media, entertainment, or technology industry
- Experience in the design and implementation of new finance systems
- Experience leading or making significant contributions to finance projects
- Ideally Big 4 background
Personality and style:
- Confident communicator able to explain complex financial issues in plain language
- Able to build quality relationships and gain the trust and confidence of senior executives
- Self-starter, able to work independently to achieve tight deadlines
- Comfortable operating in an often-ambiguous environment
- Adept at managing a range of complex stakeholder expectations.
- Sets high performance standards for themselves
Qualifications:
- Member of CAANZ (or international equivalent)
- Undergraduate degree, in Commerce or Accounting
