General Statement:
The Manager of General Accounting assists in month-end financial close and related general ledger reconciliations, as well as reconciling external systems to the general ledger. This position supervises the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Specialist positions.

Essential Duties:
  • Provides quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance.
  • Responsible for direct management of staff and allocation of work in all accounting areas, as well as cross training, serving as the backup to A/P, A/R, and cash room functions.
  • Conducts staff reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Prepares various journal entries as well as banking entries, maintains proper cut-off, and completes checklists related to month/year end close.
  • Assists with the annual budget and participates in the department meetings.
  • Responsible for the accounting department budget and monitoring actual results.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheet account reconciliations as assigned and reviews staff prepared reconciliations.
  • Reconciles general ledger revenue accounts to various external systems, including Development list of donations in Raisers Edge, Membership revenues in Raisers Edge, ticket broker revenues reported through Galaxy, and admissions, attractions and webstore revenues in Galaxy.
  • Distributes monthly department budget to actual comparisons, and provides explanations on variances.
  • Maintains the pricing spreadsheet.
  • Assists in preparation of client prepared schedules for annual audit engagement, and initiates transfer of that documentation through the auditor portal.
  • Books the monthly group events revenues and record the related receipts in the reconciliation spreadsheet.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in general accounting or other accounting areas.
  • Experience supervising staff (preferred).
  • Knowledge of tax-exempt guidelines and GAAP reporting with competency in a variety of business software packages. Great Plains Dynamics/NXT and Raisers Edge software experience helpful and preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with emphasis on Excel.
  • Strong accounting, analytic, and communication skills.
  • Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Detail-oriented with strong self-review skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and with others, as well as suggest process improvements.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
