Niche Recruitment - Wellington, North Island

Our client is a bank that provides market leading service where Kiwis are at the heart of everything they do. They are passionate about creating a sustainable future for the next generation and to ensure that the risks it takes for the company and customers are proactively managed. They are on a risk transformation journey and a large part of the role is ensuring that modern risk management processes are embedded across the customer value chain.

As the Senior Risk Manager you will be responsible for providing specialist risk advice and support to both specific Divisions to help ensure that the business meets legal and regulatory obligations across customer value chains.

This role reports to the Head of Risk, and we are looking for someone that can act as 2IC where required.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that risk profiles are “brought to life” and embedded in the Divisions you are accountable for.
  • Facilitate the development of roadmaps for the Division to ensure that risk management is owned and driven by the accountable risk and control owners.
  • Embed tools such as GRC and our supervision tool in your division (if applicable) to ensure that we have visibility of our risk management and performance.
  • Ensure key stakeholders and SMEs are clear on risk management expectations, have been enabled through your training and coaching to deliver on these expectations and are on track against risk management actions.
  • Provide expert operational risk and compliance advice to the leaders in your divisions.
  • Design, maintain and enhance assurance activities on the adequacy and effectiveness of the operational risk and compliance framework.
  • Deliver improvements to our existing QA framework for your division.
  • Oversee management responses to operational risk and compliance events within your division.
  • Support the Head of Line One Risk to design an approach for value chain risk management to enable greater cross-functional collaboration on risk management

In collaboration with the Head of Line One Risk, you will develop a clear Customer risk management strategy which will take a maturity curve into a modern risk management practice.

You will ensure that there are clear risk management plans for the Divisions you are accountable for that are aligned to the risk profiles to demonstrate that the risk management activities in progress will achieve the desired reduction in risk.

Collaborate with other risk colleagues to ensure that your strategy and approach is aligned to the expectations of the CRO.

Experience Required
  • Minimum 2-5 years' experience in senior risk roles (doesn't have to be within Financial Services)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and gain support, exceptional organisational skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience developing operational risk strategy and procedures
  • Experience developing controls testing programmes and process flowcharts
  • Operational risk experience in a large scale geographically spread business
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
