About the company

This Government agency, just three years old, is charged with solving New Zealand's housing crisis and is responsible for the strategy, policy, funding, monitoring and regulation of New Zealand's housing and urban development system. This particular team works with a range of private and government investors who are looking to develop new housing stock. The team will work to understand the feasibility of the works being proposed, ensuring financial feasibility, social and economic sustainability, and suitability, both in terms of usability by the tenant and the surrounding community, and location. Once these criteria have been met, funding is granted. They are not doing this alone, and work closely with other central and local government agencies, the housing sector, communities and iwi.

About the role

This team has 24 members, spread evenly between Akl and Wgtn and is split into two broad functions to assess feasibility: Financial, and Design and Deliverability. This role is to join the former in the Wgtn office. You'll work with the Business Development Managers to and use your financial literacy to assess applications made and collaborate closely with the other members of the team to decide if the proposal meets the outlined requirements to receive funding. You may occasionally travel to site(s) to meet with stakeholders.
  • Assess new funding applications for Public and Transitional Housing
  • Make housing more affordable for people to rent and buy, and to support quality urban development and thriving communities
Skills & experience
You'll suit this role if your value set is aligned with the team, see below. You'll have experience with, and some understanding of, urban design principles and processes. You may come from a background in finance, banking, accounting, or land development and construction. You're looking to put your skills and experience to use in a way that will see you help make a profound difference in the lives of others.You'll have an appreciation of the iwi/ Māori property development sector and be committed to a programme where iwi are development partners.

You have:
  • Strong commercial acumen in property and housing development including knowledge of key operatives and trends
  • Special abilities in interpreting financial data to gain insights, produce information and make recommendations to assess the financial viability of projects
  • An ability to work across cross-functionally with colleagues in operations, finance, risk and legal
