Finance Manager required for leading Surrey secondary school
Qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA Accountant required
Client Details
Due to continued success a Finance Manager vacancy has been created by a highly respected Surrey based secondary school.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for working as part of the Finance team to produce management accounts, plus reporting to the ESFA, and delivering financial planning and analysis. To assist with other financial duties.
Description
- Produce, from trial balances provided, the monthly management accounts, including, for the Income and Expenditure account and the balance sheet:
- comparison of the actuals to the original budget, the latest forecast, and the prior year results
- explanation of the variances above
- providing proposals for corrective action to address unfavourable variances
- Produce the above by the 10th working day of the following month, and over time produce the above by earlier than the 10th working day, subject to the delivery of the trial balances by the Finance Officer
- Work with the Finance Officer and SAGE and other external parties where appropriate to automate the production of the management accounts from SAGE
- Complete all financial returns required by the ESFA other than the Accounts Annual Return completed by the auditors
- Work with the DFO and the Finance team to prepare the budget for the following year, updated forecasts for the current year, and longer - term plans
- Work with the DFO and the Finance team to prepare financial analyses as required of historical and future income, costs, and cash, including what - if and sensitivity analysis
- Prepare benchmarking of the School's financial performance vs. other relevant Schools, using agreed benchmarking data, and highlight areas to be addressed, and propose actions
- Prepare KPIs of financial performance, and also pull together KPIs of non-financial performance, as agreed with the HeadTeacher, and highlight areas to be addressed, and propose actions
Profile
- Qualified accountant e.g. CIMA, ACCA, or ICAEW
- Proven track record in a similar role
- Extensive experience of producing timely and accurate monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts, longer - term plans, and financial analyses of income and costs
- High level of numeracy and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Honest & trustworthy
- High attention to detail, accuracy & organisational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong computer skills, including Excel spreadsheets in particular
- Able to cope well under pressure
- Common sense and a logical approach to problem solving
- Capable of producing accurate documentation
- An innovative and positive attitude
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage time well
- Experience of SAGE 50 or similar financial package
- Experience of working in a busy secondary school
