The post of Management Accountant will play a key role at the College and offers an exciting opportunity at an outstanding college. You will be responsible for the delivery of a range of Management Accounting tasks with focus on transforming systems and processes to ensure the department operates effectively and efficiently. We are keen that the post-holder builds on the strengths of an effective team, whilst seeking an opportunity to add value, with specific focus on identifying and implementing improvement / efficiencies to finance processes.

 

You will be a skilled management accountant, ideally studying towards a professional qualification, and will be supported in gaining your qualification through the apprenticeship scheme.

Main Terms and Conditions: Support Staff

Salary: The post will be paid on the Sixth Form Colleges' Support Staff Pay Spine at points 20 to 25 pro rata to £30,406 to £34,814 per annum.

Payment of Salary: Your salary will be paid by BACs transfer into your bank account on the last banking day of the month (except at Christmas when payment is made before the holiday)

Pension Scheme: You will automatically become a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (unless you opt-out). 

Working hours: 37 hours per week, full year. Starting and finishing times as agreed.

Holidays: Holiday entitlement is pro rata to 22 days annual leave plus 8 statutory and 4 concessionary days. After 5 years' continuous services the annual leave entitlement increases to pro rata to 25 days annual leave.

DBS Clearance: This post requires Disclosure and Barring Service clearance as well as a range of other safer recruitment checks.

Job Description

Post Title: Management Accountant (Part Qualified)

Responsible To: Head of Finance

Purpose of the Post:

To be responsible for the delivery of a range of Management Accounting tasks with focus on transforming systems and processes to ensure the department operates effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

Support the budget-setting and financial forecasting processes.

Support budget holders in budgetary control, providing user-friendly and timely financial reports for budget holders and management.

Work with the college Accountant to monitor actual spend against budget in order to inform strategic decisions.

 Implement improvements in the College’s use of finance system.

 Provide Project Accounting support to the many College capital projects.

Production of monthly finance analysis and reports.

Compile reports for senior leaders and advise on key financial matters.

Analyse the financial implications of decisions.

Implement improvements / efficiencies to the existing finance processes.

Support the financial management of Abacus Maths Hub and Lancaster University School of Mathematics.

Undertake such duties that maybe assigned commensurate with the grade and overall responsibility level of the post and as changing circumstances may require.

Person Specification

Essential

Part- Qualified accountant or Qualified (ICAEW/CIPFA/ACCA or equivalent)

Experience of identifying and implementing improvements / efficiencies to finance processes

Experience of developing financial systems

Experience of the budget management cycle

Experience of producing reports, analysing, and interpreting complex information

Recent participation in relevant professional development

Initiate and manage change and improvement

Lead, support, and work as part of a high-performing team

Use ICT effectively as a management tool

Ability to achieve challenging targets in a timely manner

Financial experience gained within a regulated sector including the public or charity sector
