The firm is currently hiring for a Director of Conflicts in our Birmingham office with responsibility for analyzing and resolving potential conflicts of interest as a key component of the firm’s new business intake and lateral hiring processes. KEY CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Collaborate with the firm’s General Counsel and other key individuals to research, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest.
  • Provide timely and thorough analysis of potential conflicts of interest related to new firm business and lateral attorney candidates.
  • Oversee and manage the preparation of conflict waivers, engagement letters, release letters, and similar documentation in conformance with firm policies and rules of professional conduct.
  • Oversee and manage the notification and release letters related to lawyer mobility and coordinate the approval and release of client files as applicable.
  • Review and comment on outside counsel guidelines/policies, requests for proposal, and client-generated engagement letters.
  • Assist with the preparation, implementation, and oversight of ethical walls, including sending conflict checks to firm attorneys, preparing conflict acknowledgements for signature by affected attorneys and staff, sending notices of conflict to the firm, and establishing electronic ethical walls.
  • Maintain accurate records of the conflict clearance process in the applicable firm databases.
  • Monitor developments in the rules of professional conduct and case law related to conflicts of interest, engagement letters, release letters and other lateral movement issues.
  • Review daily file information packets and audit conflict search logic used by analysts.
  • Manage the firm’s centralized audit process.
  • Oversee and supervise team members. 

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Juris Doctor required.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience; conflict analysis and resolution in a law firm setting is preferred, but not required.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of ethical, legal, and risk management rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the applicable rules of professional conduct regarding conflicts of interest.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate with varied audiences both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team, and to delegate and manage resources effectively.
  • Interpersonal skills to build lasting relationships and drive consensus; evidenced ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, attorneys and team members.
  • Superb analytical, organizational and project management skills, coupled with a strong attention to detail.
  • Exhibit high degree of initiative and critical-thinking skills in exercising independent judgment and making decisions in managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment.
