As the Financial Control Accountant you'll deliver end-to-end financial control and support reporting activities, as well as continuous improvement for Suncorp corporate entities and group activities.

What you'll do
  • Perform end of month processes for fixed assets, investments and payroll activities including the preparation of journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ownership of reconciling items.
  • Deliver to the annual end of financial year timetable, prepare and respond to audit documentation requests and queries; contribute to the production of the statutory accounts.
  • Ensure adherence to the reporting processes timetable at all times.
  • Provide accurate and timely completion of contributions to team output, including in relation to the financial statements, left hand note analysis and technical advice papers.
  • Ensure accurate preparation, completion or review of supporting documents and workpapers - whether completed by you or by partners.
  • Support the Corporate Financial Control team to ensure robust financial control processes are being practised.
  • Proactively identify and implement initiatives to improve the effectiveness of financial processes currently undertaken within the team and by our offshore partners.
  • Build your experience & profile by adding value & financial control by identifying risks & opportunities, improving processes & working closely with key stakeholders to influence practical change.
  • Assist in preparing technical accounting memos and position papers.

What you need to bring to the role
  • Chartered Accountant or CPA
  • Accounting experience within a big 4 or mid-tier environment in assurance or business. services and / or experience within a large commercial finance function.
  • Desire to work as a team with a mind wired for curiosity, change & continual improvement.
  • Working knowledge of financial systems (e.g. General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Treasury, and Asset Management).
  • Strong internal customer service focus and ability to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Knowledge of AASB accounting standards and financial statement disclosures.
  • Ability to apply technical accounting skills in a practical manner to achieve problem identification / resolution.
  • Proficiency in Oracle (or similar) general ledger and NXG Accurate (or similar) reconciliation tool
  • Strong awareness of and embraces risk management practices and procedures.
