Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to about 1 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy. Snowy 2.0 is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.
An exciting opportunity exists for a Management Accountant within a supportive and collaborative team. In this role you will provide high quality oversight, insight and foresight in relation to Snowy Hydro's financial performance whilst fostering strong stakeholder relationships with key staff across Snowy Hydro to understand the business area and partner effectively. This will include preparing reports and facilitating budget and forecast preparation, analysing trends and conducting month end accounting and reconciliations, as well as supporting system and process improvements. To be most effective in this role, a regular physical presence will be required across each of our regional sites, however, Snowy Hydro also encourages and supports flexible working arrangements and appreciates the additional value such arrangements can bring to our business and to our employees.
Reporting to the Senior Manager - Project Accounting & Finance Services, your key responsibilities will include:
Ongoing maintenance and review of finance structures, systems, processes, including cost controls
Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance company performance and cost management
Management of monthly operating and project accruals
Reconciling a set of ledger & subledger balances
Coordinating, interrogating, analysing, challenging and uploading operating expenditure budgets and forecasts
Monitoring operating expenditure accounting activities to ensure they comply with relevant AASB standards
Providing high quality analytical reporting and insights to all relevant audiences
Recommending changes and improvements to process and practices
Leading by example and continuously demonstrating the highest level of health and safety standards in accordance with SHL OHS policies and exhibiting behaviours consistent with Snowy Hydro's Values
We're looking for someone with:
A Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Commerce or other Finance related field
CPA/CA qualifications or currently undertaking studies to obtain professional membership to either of these organisations
Up to 5 years experience in a similar role, particularly in management accounting in a large corporate environment
Strong reporting and analytical skills
Excellent business engagement skills with the ability to effectively communicate financial matters to non-financial personnel
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate & manage well at all levels and with personnel in remote locations
Highly skilled in MS Excel and Enterprise Resource Planning systems
Experience with databases and SQL, data analysis and reporting tools, especially PowerBI
Familiarity with Electricity Generation & Markets is desirable but not essential
