*1. PLANNING*
*Planning for large assignments will be conducted in conjunction with the Manager and/or the Partner.*
* *
* This includes :*
* *Gaining an understanding of the client's business;*
* *Gaining an understanding of the system of internal controls;*
* *Identifying risks and their implications and special problems and provide solutions therefore;*
* *Evaluating above results and determining an appropriate basis and level of materiality;*
* *Setting the budget, according to the resources made available for the assignment;*
* *Preparation of all planning working papers;*
* *Planning the timing of the assignment.*
*2. FIELDWORK*
* *Prepare and be responsible for a working paper file (WPF) for large assignments.*
* *Keep neat and logical notes of all communications, instructions and training received from superiors.*
* *Gain an adequate understanding of the critical audit objectives and areas of audit risk.*
* *Design appropriate procedures for larger assignments and determine sample sizes.*
* *Apply critical judgement to the tests assigned. Wherever possible, suggest more effective means to achieve the objectives.*
* *Delegate tasks to other members of the team and ensure that they have a proper understanding of their responsibilities.*
* *Be responsible for fieldwork on the assignment. Assist juniors and intermediates in carrying out control and substantive audit procedures. Assist the Manager with more complex audit areas and substantive procedures.*
* *Utilise the accounting (IFRS and IFRS for SMEs) and audit standards (ISAs) when performing fieldwork.*
* *Evaluate the results of procedures performed and draw conclusions in conjunction with the Manager.*
* *Maintain professional scepticism throughout the performance of audit work.*
* *In respect of queries identified, clear the majority with the client and only leave pertinent matters for the Manager to resolve.*
* *Identify items to be reported to Management and draft the management report using appropriate professional language.*
* *Record time spent on Caseware Time and keep your superior informed as to expected time overruns on sections.*
* *Timesheets and travel claims to be handed in for approval to the relevant Manager or Partner every Monday morning.*
* *Perform advanced secretarial work.*
* *Prepare and review documents for registration processes, e.g. UIF, SDL, VAT, etc.*
* *Complete and review individual, company, close corporation and trust tax returns.*
* *Assist with tax planning for clients.*
* *Draft advanced letters to SARS, for review by the Tax Manager, in respect of objections, etc., to the point of completing such SARS audits.*
*3. CASEWARE*
* *Full knowledge of Caseware.*
* *Supervise all other members of the team to whom Caseware work has been delegated.*
* *Roll forward of client's data from the previous year by using the latest Caseware template.*
* *Set up a new client on Caseware.*
* *Import and mapping of trial balance into Caseware.*
* *Process standard journal entries.*
* *Process non-standard journal entries.*
* *Saving of all electronic working papers (Excel, Word, PD, etc.) in the Caseware file at all times.*
* *Drafting of financial statements compliant with HLB Barnett Chown (Pty) Ltd's standards and in compliance with IFRS/IFRS for SMEs and other relevant legislation.*
* *Ensuring that Caseware files are regularly synced to the parent Caseware file on the server, also monitors team members, in this regard.*
*4. SUPERVISION AND CONTROL*
* *Supervise and control the work of other members of the team to whom work has been delegated. This includes junior trainee accountants and intermediate trainee accountants. *
* *Assist the Manager and/or Partner in the overall control and supervision of assignments where not in charge.*
*5. REVIEW*
* *Review working papers of other members of the team to whom work has been delegated.*
*6. REPORTING*
* *Drafting of financial statements compliant with HLB Barnett Chown (Pty) Ltd's standards and in compliance with IFRS/IFRS for SMEs and other relevant legislation.*
* *Draft management reports relating to any assignments.*
*7. ADMINISTRATION*
* *Advise the HR Department of annual or study leave requirements, well in advance, in order to assist with planning.*
* *Annual leave during peak periods should be avoided, where possible.*
* *Complete timesheets and submit them on Monday mornings. If out of town or on leave, timesheets should be completed and submitted in advance.*
* *Ensure that time charged to each client or internal account is properly recorded on the timesheet, including the correct work code.*
* *Pre-overtime approval forms to be completed in line with the HLB Overtime Policy.*
* *Submit any pre-overtime approval forms with timesheets on a Monday morning.*
* *Ensure that the receptionist and/or superior is kept informed of your whereabouts during office hours, at all times.*
