About the opportunity

Department Description

Internal Audit is an independent Group function that reports directly to the Chairman of the Group Audit and Risk Committee. Its mandate is to examine and critically evaluate the effectiveness of the Company's internal controls and governance systems, as well as the adequacy of, and compliance with, regulatory obligations, internal strategies, policies, processes and reporting procedures. In addition, we help management and the Board to fulfil their oversight responsibilities through effective challenge to help them identify, assess and commercially manage the Company's risk. Using a risk-based methodology; an annual audit plan is developed in consultation with Fidelity management to include audits of specific business areas as well as thematic and emerging risks through participation in new initiatives and systems developments. The Internal Audit team is globally dispersed across the UK, Luxembourg, Germany, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Dalian.

Purpose of your role

The role of the Audit Manager (Pensions) is to deliver audit assignments covering Fidelity's Workplace Investing (WI) business and other related functions to verify that business operations are effectively controlled and that risks are mitigated. You will be required to participate in the planning and execution of audit assignments in line with Fidelity's audit methodology, producing findings and drafting reports for presentation to Senior Management. The role will report to the Associate Director (Pensions) in the UK Internal Audit team, but you may be involved in audits across other business areas. In addition, the role will provide support and subject matter expertise to other audits across the global audit team to ensure effective coverage of pension regulatory risk.

This is a fabulous opportunity for someone with experience of the administration of Defined Contribution (DC) pensions to build your career within Internal Audit at Fidelity (previous experience of Internal Audit is beneficial, but not necessary). The work carried out in Internal Audit provides experience of a broad range of areas of the organisation and exposure to senior management whilst allowing you to be seen to help improve controls over key risks in the business. The audit team is relatively small and as such you may work autonomously under the direction of the audit lead or in small groups auditing a specific area of the business from scope to final report.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under the guidance of the Audit Lead to execute planned audits, including preparation of audit scope coverage, fieldwork and testing within the given timeframe.
  • Document audit testing using best practices and form conclusions based on the outcome of the testing including the identification of areas in need of improvement.
  • Assist in the drafting of audit reports and engaging with stakeholders to obtain management agreement and responses.
  • Engage with business stakeholders for validation and timely closure of audit findings.
  • Working alongside technology auditors to deliver 'integrated' audits.
  • Working within cross-functional teams on longer term projects, such as new initiatives, systems developments and product launches.
  • Involvement in ad hoc reviews and investigations.
  • Contributing to the development of processes and procedures within Internal Audit.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the audit universe.
  • Continuously develop your own technical, commercial and personal skills.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to audits across the global audit team to ensure effective coverage of pension regulatory risk.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Financial services experience in DC, preferably the administration of DC pension benefits.
  • Experience of risk and control in a financial services environment
  • Pensions Management Institute qualifications (e.g. CertPMI, DipPMI, PMI) or equivalent preferred

Key Competencies and Personal Characteristics

  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels
  • Detailed knowledge of regulation applicable to the administration of DC pension schemes.
  • Knowledge of risks and controls associated with the administration of DC pensions and services preferred
  • Broad knowledge of the pension industry and landscape is beneficial, but not essential
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in Internal Audit is beneficial, but not essential
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Good presentation skills
  • Good report writing skills
  • Delivery focus with an ability to work to tight deadlines
