Interim Head of FP&A required for leading Surrey based Charity

Client Details

A particularly worthwhile and rewarding International Charity are looking to recruit a Head of Financial Planning & Analysis on a 6-month interim basis for their Surrey based headquarters. Please note this is a hybrid working opportunity.

The successful applicant will be expected to manage the Financial Planning and Analysis unit with two direct reports (Head of Commercial Finance and Head of Programmes Finance) and a wider team of ten. The role reports into the Director of Finance who in turn reports into the Executive Director of Operations and Strategy. The unit is part of the Finance team and is responsible for delivering the organisation's financial planning, analysis and management reporting. The role works closely with the Head of Strategic Planning and Performance.

Description

You will be responsible for ensuring effective decision support is in place and resource allocation is optimised to fulfil the strategy. You will partner senior directors and budget holders, and lead and motivate your team to provide high quality, timely and insightful financial management information. The reports will also inform Trustees as they assess the performance of the organisation.

You will champion continuous improvement and value for money across the organisation. Within Finance this means you will be responsible for uplifting the effectiveness of the unit, ensuring the information and decision support it provides is fit for purpose and helping develop the financial and commercial acumen throughout the organisation.

  • Produce accurate and timely financial management reporting (monthly), forecasting (quarterly), budgeting (annual) and long-term financial projections/plans with expert recommendations
  • Bring to senior management and trustees' attention particular finance-related information and/or concerns with clear analysis and authoritative advice - this may involve investigation and interpretation of complex and diverse information and maybe as a result of own initiative or as a result of a request from senior management
  • Cultivate strong relationships with and develop the financial capacity of the leadership team and budgeted holders. Ensure that budget holders and management across the organisation receive the training, advice and support required to manage their budgets well and to make good finance-related strategic decisions including investment decisions
  • Help evaluate financial aspects of all business cases/investment appraisals
  • Responsible for reserves management including management of restricted funds
  • Lead, manage and develop a high performing financial planning and analysis unit which is greatly valued by the organisation as a business partner and which keeps abreast of latest professional and technical developments and best practice

Profile

  • Qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA Accountant
  • Significant experience of producing and presenting management reporting and information and other sometimes complex financial information for senior management in a similar sized organisation or larger
  • Experience of leading a finance business partnering function in a similar sized organisation or larger
  • Significant experience of leading, managing and developing a team and being a team player

Knowledge and understanding of charity accounting issues would be advantageous

  • Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills and ability to influence opinion of key stakeholders
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
